Senior Cloud Engineer with Java/Golang Experience Needed - Phoenix, AZ

Job Description-: 

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join the Enterprise Cloud Technology in Phoenix. This team is focused on transforming the developer experience by streamlining the cloud onboarding process, maturing automation, and ensuring seamless SDLC integration.

You will work closely with fellow cloud engineers, solution architects, and application teams to design and implement cloud-native infrastructure with a strong focus on automation, security, scalability, and reliability. These roles are critical in supporting both AWS and on-prem platforms, helping to advance Amex’s cloud modernization strategy.

Responsibilities:

·                     Architect, implement, and automate cloud infrastructure across AWS and on-prem environments.

• Own and advance Terraform-based IaC modules, Go tooling, and CI/CD integrations.
• Design and evangelize best practices for SDLC and CICD in a secure cloud environment.
• Collaborate across teams to transform cloud requirements into robust, reusable code.
• Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters, including pod security and performance.
• Develop and maintain custom Terraform providers, REST APIs, and infrastructure tooling.
• Ensure alignment of network, DNS, IAM, and security policy configurations across all environments.
• Communicate technical strategy to stakeholders and provide cross-functional training as needed.
• Contribute to overall developer onboarding experience for internal application teams.
• Champion test-driven development and infrastructure quality via automation.

Must-Have Qualifications:

·                     7+ years of hands-on development experience with Golang (preferred) or Java.

• Expert-level knowledge of Terraform – module development, state management, provisioning.
• Deep experience managing containerized environments using Kubernetes.
• Proficiency working across both AWS and on-prem infrastructures.
• Proven expertise in CI/CD pipeline design, implementation, and governance.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate networking, IAM, and security policy into scalable cloud platforms.
• Excellent communication skills – able to clearly articulate technical solutions and mentor others.
• Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking mindset.
• Experience creating custom tooling to support cloud developer workflows.
