Summary
Job Title : Data Consultant
Location : Remote
Duration : 6+ months -
Job Responsibilities
· Heavy focus on data visualization and analysis.
· Work with time and absence data coming from multiple systems, bringing the data together for analysis and visualization in Power BI.
· Assess complex data and derive meaningful findings/insights.
· Convert manual Excel reporting into Power BI, with a focus on greater automation, visualization, and self-service reporting.
· Support the organization’s movement toward Databricks, including the transition/conversion from SAS to Databricks.
· Help manage a heavy workload of data analysis and consulting.
· Gather and organize data/findings that the Manager/Senior Consultant can bring forward to the executive body.
· Understand business needs and translate them into technical/data solutions.
· Communicate technical findings in a way that nontechnical stakeholders can understand.
Requirements
· Bachelor's degree
· 3+ years of direct experience
· Must have strong/extensive experience with Power BI data visualizations (end to end)
· Must be able to take data and create visualizations, automation, and self-service reporting.
· Can move existing/manual EXCEL reporting into automated Power BI environment.
· SQL Databricks required
· Because the team is migrating to Databricks, they strongly prefer someone who already has sound knowledge and experience working in that type of environment/migration.
· Ideally looking for someone who can combine data analysis/visualization with Databricks knowledge.
· Data Analysis
• Must have experience working with large, complex datasets from multiple data sources.
• Experience working within a large organizational/data environment is important. The volume and complexity may be challenging for someone who has only worked in smaller environments.
• Strong analytical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
• Should be comfortable assessing complexity within the data and deriving findings.
- Communication / Consulting
· This is a true analyst/consultant role, not just a technical development position.
· Needs enough technical depth to understand the data while also being able to communicate findings clearly.
· Must be able to understand/translate the business need and articulate technical or analytical information to nontechnical audiences.
Preferred Skills
· SAS: Most relevant nice-to-have because the team is transitioning from SAS to Databricks.
· Oracle: Current source environment. Candidates with Oracle knowledge/experience would have an advantage, but not required
· SQL: SQL knowledge is relevant, but the manager is not necessarily looking for a very strong/advanced SQL developer. The larger focus is Power BI, analytics, and Databricks.
What Sarah Appears to Be Looking For in the Interview
· Candidates should be able to talk through the work they've actually done.
· She would like to hear examples of situations/challenges candidates have encountered and how they worked through them.
· Expect an emphasis on problem-solving and how the candidate approaches resolving issues, rather than just listing technologies.
Ideal Profile in Simple Terms
· Strong Power BI + Databricks + complex enterprise data analysis + consulting/communication skills.
· The person needs to be technical enough to work within a complex data environment, but this is not simply a developer role. The value is in being able to analyze complex data, create meaningful Power BI visualizations/automation, solve problems, and clearly communicate what the data is showing.
