Founding Engineering Manager (Onsite - New York, NY)
We're looking for a Founding Engineering Manager to join a fast-growing, venture-backed startup in the financial technology space. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Lower Manhattan, NYC.
About You
  • You're ambitious, hands-on, and prefer to lead from the front. You set the tone for excellence and enjoy being a role model and multiplier for your team's success.
  • You're seeking a high-growth startup environment - one where revenue, headcount, and impact are scaling fast.
  • You're motivated by teamwork over titles - you want to work alongside people you can rely on when the stakes are high and the goals are big.
About the Role
You'll work directly with the founding team to build the future of the financial system from the ground up. The team values autonomy and speed - very few meetings, broad ownership, and a "hands-off" culture built on trust.

As the first engineering manager, you'll define what great management looks like - not just for engineering, but across the entire organization. You'll play a critical role in shaping the culture, scaling the team, and ensuring that engineering is a force multiplier for the entire company.
You'll be responsible for:
  • Partnering with Sales, Product, and Customer Success to make their goals possible.
  • Supporting new engineers as they ramp up and get productive quickly.
  • Championing the accomplishments and impact of your team.
  • Retaining, growing, and leading a world-class engineering team.
What to Expect
First Week
  • Ship your first PR to production.
  • Learn the core business problems, customers, value prop, platform, and roadmap.
  • Get up to speed on the codebase, architecture, and growth mindset that drives the company.
  • Contribute to product discussions and roadmap decisions.

First Month
  • Implement a feature that directly generates new revenue.
  • Participate in code and design reviews.
  • Get to know each engineer's strengths and goals.
  • Begin running technical interviews.
  • Become the go-to person for stakeholders across the org.

First 3 Months and Beyond
  • Manage and grow a team of engineers.
  • Continue hiring, mentoring, and scaling your impact.
  • Partner closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver on company-wide objectives.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of professional experience as a software engineer.
  • 1+ years of experience as an engineering manager.
  • Strong communicator, highly organized, and skilled at problem-solving.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.

Nice to Have
  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up.
  • Hands-on experience with React and Python in production environments.
Benefits
  • 401(k) with 100% match up to 6%.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Housing stipend for employees living in FiDi.
Interview Process
  1. 20-min phone screen - Role overview and initial fit.
  2. 60-min management interview - Discuss frameworks, playbooks, and past experiences.
  3. 60-min technical interview - Code review and system design.
  4. Onsite - Culture and team fit conversations with founders and teammates.
  5. Reference checks.
  6. Offer.

We aim to move from first conversation to decision within 8-10 business days.
