About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Special Process Manufacturing Engineer to join our Machining Operations Center/Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of special processes used in the production of ultraprecision machined components. You'll work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment alongside engineering, quality, and production teams.
What You'll Do - Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Production teams.
- Develop and revise detailed work instructions and shop floor documentation to support production.
- Design fixture and tooling concepts, including creation of drawings.
- Provide shop-floor support and troubleshoot technical and manufacturing issues.
- Conduct root-cause analyses for nonconforming components and drive effective corrective actions.
- Monitor and report on quality, schedule, and cost performance across assigned programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in training programs and support knowledge transfer when needed.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
- 3+ years of experience with painting, priming, plating, and coating lines.
- Demonstrated experience leading root-cause and corrective-action initiatives.
- Experience writing clear, detailed work instructions and rework instructions.
- Hands-on experience with non-conforming material processes and MRB activities.
- Background working with shop-floor personnel to identify and resolve production issues.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (quality, production, planning, engineering).
- Ability to interpret military specifications for materials, paints, and coatings.
- Strong knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, 6S).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desired: - CARC paint, nickel plating, passivation, surface prep procedures, curing, mixing, dry-film evaluation, and adhesion testing.
- Identifying opportunities for capital investment and automation in masking/priming/painting/coating processes.
- Use of precision measuring tools, gauges, and inspection equipment.
- 3D printing and designing tooling for paint/coating application.
- CAD experience using CREO or NX.
- Familiarity with ISO9000 and AS9100 quality standards and military specifications.
- Validating chemical solutions (titration, pH measurement).
- Running test panels for plating line validation.
- Monitoring and maintaining production equipment (pumps, heaters, tank liners, etc.).
- Ordering and managing chemical/material inventory.
- Monitoring DI water systems.
- Proper disposal of chemical waste.
- 3+ years of experience handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
