  • Gain proficiency with legacy programming and database environments (such as FAME) as needed to ensure uninterrupted monthly production workflows and assist ongoing modernization.
  • Utilize modern programming languages and analytical technologies, including but not limited to R, Python, and SQL-based tools.
  • Analyze and evaluate advanced system and application requirements to drive technical improvements.
  • Assess existing applications and identify opportunities for increased performance, maintainability, reliability, and processing efficiency.
  • Design and develop software tools, reusable components, subsystems, and supporting technical frameworks that align with business and technical needs.
  • Translate complex functional and technical designs into robust, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.
  • Create technical documentation including block diagrams, data-flow and logic-flow charts, technical specifications, and other key design artifacts.
  • Test, debug, refine, and validate software throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure required functionality and production reliability.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation at the technical, user, and program levels.
  • Manage software configuration and release processes to support controlled and secure deployment cycles.
  • Coordinate closely with infrastructure, IT, communications, and other organizational teams to ensure success of technical and operational activities.
  • Support secure, reliable file-transfer, data-validation, and production-release procedures to maintain data integrity and operational continuity.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies-such as artificial intelligence tools and coding assistants-and determine their appropriate and secure use within the development environment.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to develop a deep understanding of complex data structures, business rules, processing requirements, and system dependencies.
  • Demonstrate strong project ownership and attention to detail by consistently meeting deadlines and supporting time-sensitive production and release schedules.

Essential Skills, Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, physics, economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience as a programmer, developer, or systems analyst supporting application development in enterprise or data-intensive environments.
  • Significant professional programming experience in R or Python, including end-to-end development and production deployment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop software in accordance with established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of software analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and maintenance in robust production settings.
  • Experience analyzing business and technical requirements, and translating them into sound application design and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with designing technical artifacts such as block diagrams, logic-flow charts, and data-flow diagrams.
  • Track record of testing, debugging, refining, and documenting production-grade software applications.
  • Experience reviewing legacy or existing programs to drive performance, reliability, and maintainability enhancements.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capabilities to address complex system challenges.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend complex data structures, system dependencies, and detailed business logic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and ability to deliver results on time-sensitive or mission-critical projects.
  • Strong track record of working both independently and collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for consideration.

  • Experience working with SQL-based platforms, DuckDB, or similar analytical database technologies is strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience modernizing legacy application, programming, or database environments is a plus.
  • Background supporting statistical, economic, financial, scientific, or other data-intensive application environments is highly beneficial.
  • Experience supporting recurring production systems with strict release schedules is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management tools and industry best practices.
