Overview

We re seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the commissioning and testing of substation and transmission equipment across the Pacific Northwest. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy field-based work, hands-on testing, and ensuring the reliability of the regional power grid.

You ll work with high-voltage equipment (up to 500kV), verifying installations, testing relays, transformers, and SCADA systems, and supporting project energization from start to finish.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist in testing of substation equipment (transformers, breakers, relays, CT/PT, etc.)

  • Support commissioning of control systems including SCADA, PLC, and communication equipment.

  • Verify electrical wiring and cable installations against design drawings.

  • Conduct inspections, testing, and troubleshooting during substation construction and energization.

  • Coordinate with engineers and technicians on-site to ensure compliance and performance.

  • Travel extensively (up to 100%) to substations across WA, OR, ID, and MT.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • At least 6 months of experience (internship or professional) applying electrical engineering concepts related to transmission or substation systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation (SF-85).

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% across BPA s service territory.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Training or experience in Power Systems Engineering (design, relay protection, or controls).

  • Ability to interpret and troubleshoot electrical one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

  • Hands-on experience testing or commissioning substation or control systems.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and field troubleshooting skills.
