Summary

The Senior Staff Engineer, Software develops, debugs, tests, deploys and supports code to be deployed in systems/products/equipment for various applications. They write, debug, maintain, and test software in various common languages and for software at various levels in the hierarchy (from Firmware to Application). Software creation follows an agreed to development process (such as Agile, Scrum, etc.) and complies with the product life cycle development (phase/gate deliverables).
The Senior Staff Engineer, Software works in cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Global SME with comprehensive knowledge and industry recognition. Provides technical leadership and direction to a global team of engineers.
  • Take responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.)
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and may act as primary customer contact.
  • Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develops deployment strategies and plans.
  • Lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.
  • May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  • Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites.
  • Design and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies.
  • Test software development methodology (may be done in agile environment)
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, users, project managers and other engineers including Peer-Reviews to achieve elegant solutions.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations


Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

What You'll Bring:
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong blend of technical expertise and leadership capabilities, demonstrated by:

Project Management Expertise: The ability to manage and lead complex, multiple task engineering projects, understand and drive the technical aspects, and be able to debug/develop mitigation plans for barriers.

Strong Communication & Collaboration: Excellent coaching, mentoring, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with a commitment to working effectively within teams and with stakeholders within and outside of the organization.

Problem-Solving & Quality: A knack for creative problem-solving, along with familiarity with Quality & Lean methodologies, D/PFMEA, and 8D/Corrective Action is a plus.

Core Technical Skills:

To excel in this role, you should possess strong proficiency in one or more areas highlighted below:

Programming Languages: C, C++, Python

Embedded Systems: Advanced hands-on knowledge of Linux embedded systems/appliances

BSP & Drivers: Proven track record in board bring-up, PCI, Linux kernel driver development and bootloader integration

Diagnostics & ONIE: Strong background in diagnostics design, ONIE integration, and network provisioning workflows

Software Development Kits (SDKs): Proficient in utilizing SDK for AI Accelerators, Network Processing Units (NPU) and Embedded platforms

BIOS: Working knowledge of system BIOS and software, ability to debug complex issues and deliver SW patche

BMC: Working knowledge of Yocto/OpenBMC, ability to debug complex issues and deliver SW patches

Other nice to haves:
Working knowledge of Data Center routers and switches

In-depth understanding of Linux kernel, device driver, IPC, U-boot.

Familiarity with Linux application development.

Knowledge of BMC including IPMI, SDR, SEL, FRU records, SOL, IPMB, Side-band LAN, KCS and KVM.

Knowledge of Redfish and other management protocols.

Working knowledge of BMC related Hardware such as ARM, BMC chip (AST 2500, AST2600, Pilot 4 etc.), HW-monitor and Super-IO, NC-SI NIC, phy.

Working knowledge of common bus such as I2C, IPMB, PMBUS, SPI, LPC, UART, JTAG.

Experience with one or more of the following standards/technologies: SCSI, SES, RAID, SAS, SATA, SSD, SMART, PCI Express, HBA, network protocol TCP/UDP, etc is a plus.

Experience with PSoC or MCU firmware development is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
