Summary

DESE is seeking a Flight Sciences Thermal Analysis Engineer in Huntsville, AL. The Flight Sciences Engineer supports the design, analysis, and validation of advanced aerospace and defense systems through specialized engineering analyses across multiple flight sciences disciplines. This role performs technical analyses that influence system performance, reliability, and mission success while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in one or more technical areas, including multi-body dynamics, rigid body kinematics, thermal analysis, thermofluids, aerodynamics, or related flight sciences disciplines.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform engineering analyses to evaluate the performance, stability, and reliability of aerospace and defense systems throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Develop, analyze, and validate analytical and simulation models supporting flight sciences disciplines, including multi-body dynamics, thermal analysis, and related engineering specialties.
  • Conduct trade studies and provide technical recommendations to optimize system performance and design.
  • Correlate analytical models with test data to validate model accuracy and improve simulation fidelity.
  • Collaborate with systems, mechanical, structural, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to support integrated product development.
  • Utilize industry-standard engineering analysis tools to evaluate system performance and support design decisions.
  • Develop automation scripts and analysis tools using MATLAB, Python, or equivalent programming languages as required.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations supporting engineering reviews, customer deliverables, and program milestones.
  • Support system integration, verification, qualification testing, and anomaly resolution activities.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience performing engineering analyses within one or more flight sciences disciplines, including multi-body dynamics, rigid body kinematics, thermal analysis, thermophysics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, or related specialties.
  • Experience using one or more industry-standard engineering analysis tools such as MSC ADAMS, NX/Simcenter, Thermal Desktop, SINDA, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills grounded in engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience developing analytical models and validating results through test correlation or engineering evaluation.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or equivalent programming and scripting languages.
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly integrated, multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting aerospace, missile, or defense programs.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) or digital engineering environments.
  • Familiarity with qualification, environmental, or flight testing and model validation.
  • Knowledge of applicable military, aerospace, and industry engineering standards.
  • Experience performing technical analyses across multiple flight sciences disciplines.
