Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Developer with 10+ years of hands-on experience in legacy and modern mainframe technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, and DB2, along with experience supporting mission-critical batch and online systems in large enterprise environments (banking, insurance, or financial services preferred). This role requires deep technical knowledge combined with the ability to analyze, enhance, and modernize legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and CICS
  • Analyze and enhance existing legacy systems, ensuring minimal disruption to production
  • Write and optimize DB2/VSAM database queries and manage data structures
  • Develop and maintain batch processing jobs, troubleshoot job failures, and optimize job scheduling
  • Support online transaction processing systems via CICS and IMS DB/DC
  • Perform impact analysis, code reviews, and unit/system testing for new enhancements
  • Collaborate with business analysts to translate functional requirements into technical specifications
  • Participate in production support, incident resolution, and on-call rotation as needed
  • Support mainframe modernization initiatives (e.g., integration with APIs, cloud migration strategies)
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, run books, and system specifications
  • Mentor junior mainframe developers and support knowledge transfer

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe development
  • Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2
  • Experience with VSAM file structures and IMS DB/DC (preferred)
  • Solid understanding of batch processing, job scheduling tools (CA-7, Control-M, or similar)
  • Experience with debugging tools (Xpediter, File-Aid, Abend-Aid, or similar)
  • Strong SQL skills for DB2 database querying and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with version control tools (Endevor, ChangeMan, or similar)
  • Experience working in Agile/Waterfall enterprise environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in legacy code
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with business and QA teams
