Kafka Administrator/Platform Engineer (Contract to Hire | Remote – U.S.)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Kafka Platform Engineer to support enterprise data streaming and integration initiatives. This role focuses on administering and enhancing Kafka platforms, supporting client integrations, and ensuring reliable data flow across systems and third-party partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Kafka platforms (on-premises and cloud-based)
- Support data integration efforts with internal systems and external vendors
- Develop platform enhancements, automation, and new services
- Provide production support, including incident management and troubleshooting
- Partner with internal teams to deliver scalable, event-driven solutions
- Conduct code reviews and develop proof-of-concepts
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing
- Support monitoring, logging, and performance optimization activities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or similar roles
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka administration
- Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture and data streaming concepts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Confluent Cloud or Confluent Platform
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Dynatrace or Splunk
- Scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell) and understanding of network protocols
- Cybersecurity awareness or experience
- CISSP certification (preferred)

- Fully remote (U.S.-based)

Team & Projects
You will be part of a platform engineering group responsible for managing large-scale Kafka environments supporting over 100+ applications. The team focuses on platform reliability, automation, and enabling self-service capabilities. Current initiatives include enterprise data integration projects and platform enhancements.
