Mainframe IMS System Programmer

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe IMS System Programmer to support, maintain, and enhance IMS Database (IMS DB) and IMS Transaction Manager (IMS TM) environments on z/OS. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in IMS configuration, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery, supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IMS DB and IMS TM on z/OS.

• Perform SMP/E maintenance, patching, and version upgrades for IMS.

• Define and manage IMS control regions, message regions, and dependent regions.

• Administer IMS databases, PSBs, DBDs, ACBs, and related control blocks.

• Monitor and tune IMS performance, transaction throughput, and database access.

• Diagnose and resolve IMS abends, database issues, and system performance problems.

• Support high availability and disaster recovery for IMS environments.

• Integrate IMS with CICS, DB2, and MQSeries.

• Manage IMS security using RACF / ACF2 / TSS.

• Support batch and online processing and ensure SLA compliance.

• Participate in disaster recovery testing and failover exercises.

• Coordinate with application development, DBAs, and infrastructure teams.

• Maintain IMS documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

• Provide on-call and production support as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong experience as an IMS System Programmer in large-scale mainframe environments.

• Hands-on expertise with:

  • IMS DB and IMS TM

  • IMS control region setup and administration

  • SMP/E for IMS maintenance

• Solid understanding of z/OS system internals.

• Experience integrating IMS with:

  • CICS

  • DB2

  • MQSeries

• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

• Experience with IMS backup, recovery, and DR processes.
