To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for an IT Linux Engineer to join the team. This role will be responsible for Linux infrastructure and services in an EDA environment supporting Microsoft Hardware Engineering.
Responsibilities- Administer, maintain, and improve Linux systems with a strong focus on reliability, security, and performance.
- Support software and hardware engineering teams in an engineering lab environment; collaborating closely with project managers and cross-functional technical teams.
- Work closely with MSP and junior sysadmins to accomplish engineering goals.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain core infrastructure services following a Security First approach.
- Own day-to-day operational tasks, including break/fix troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, user support, and system monitoring.
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and automation workflows for configuration management and system provisioning.
- Perform system hardening, remediation of vulnerabilities, and continuous improvement of the security posture.
- Focus on CAD and EDA applications, software tools and architecture to support hardware engineering development.
- Work efficiently within a ticket-driven workflow, meeting established SLAs and ensuring timely communication.
- Create and maintain clear, thorough documentation, including configurations, playbooks, SOPs, SLAs, runbooks, and knowledge-base articles.
- Partner with team members to propose solutions and contribute to the development of modern infrastructure and best practices.
- Support the Labs team with hardware and tools deployment.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: - Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of UNIX/Linux Systems Administration experience.
- 2+ years of system automation experience using some scripting language such as Shell, PowerShell, Perl, or Python.
- 2+ years of experience writing and maintaining Ansible code for automation and configuration management.
Other Requirements:Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications: - 2+ Years' Azure cloud administrative experience delivering IaaS services.
- Experience providing IT infrastructure to hardware or silicon engineering teams.
- Experience supporting both lab/test and production environments, including software and hardware development workflows.
- Proven understanding of systems administration, automation, and monitoring.
- Experience with Industry Compliance, Security, and Regulatory Standards such as ISO 27001, FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 Rev.2, NIST 800-53 Rev.4.
- Experience in Risk Management.
- Understanding of enterprise storage, networking and fundamental statistics.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds (an occasional server).

Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
