responsibilities:
As the lead Data Engineer, your day-to-day will involve:
- Designing and implementing the foundational, scalable data warehouse and lakehouse infrastructure to support enterprise-wide KPIs.
- Architecting and maintaining highly reliable batch and streaming data pipelines, pulling from diverse application databases and third-party systems.
- Collaborating directly with executive leadership to translate complex business metrics into robust, actionable data models and schemas.
- Establishing and owning the company's data modeling standards, ensuring data quality, rigorous testing, and comprehensive observability across all pipelines.
- Empowering business intelligence and data analytics teams by building self-serve, cleanly structured datasets.
- Documenting the entire data platform, including lineage and definitions, to establish a singular source of truth for the business.
- Serving as a senior presence and technical anchor, providing architectural guidance and maturity to a rapidly growing engineering team in a dynamic startup environment.
qualifications:
Must-Haves
Willingness and ability to work onsite five days a week in the New York City office.
3 to 5+ years of dedicated experience as a Data Engineer, preferably within a fast-paced, mid-stage startup.
Expert-level programming skills in Python.
Exceptional SQL capabilities and a strong background in designing and data modeling for complex analytics.
Extensive hands-on experience with modern cloud data architectures and warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks).
Proven expertise building production-grade data pipelines with a focus on performance, reliability, and cost optimization.
A builder's mindset with the ability to navigate a greenfield, ambiguous environment and make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions.
Nice-to-Haves
Deep understanding of modern orchestration and ingestion tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Fivetran).
Previous experience as an early data hire driving infrastructure at a fast-growing tech company.
Background in B2B SaaS, specifically working with revenue, usage, or customer health metrics.
Experience designing semantic layers and supporting leading BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Mode, or Metabase.
Familiarity with AWS cloud environments and an appreciation for full-stack engineering principles.
