Salesforce Order management Lead or Architect
Needham, MA
6 Months Contract
Job Description:
· Senior or lead engineer on the Salesforce platform, with Apex, Lightning Web Components and Flow at scale. Typically 7+ years in engineering and 4+ on Salesforce.
· Experience designing and supporting order or commerce workflows in production, including owning them after launch.
· Proven experience designing order management or commerce integrations with e-commerce, ERP, warehouse or logistics systems.
· Integration design: REST APIs, asynchronous and event-driven processing (Platform Events, batch and scheduled jobs), error handling, retries, idempotency and reconciliation.
· Experience with middleware platforms such as MuleSoft, Oracle Integration Cloud or equivalent.
· Design within platform constraints: governor limits, bulkification and scalable data design. Solid grasp of the Salesforce security model: sharing, CRUD and FLS enforcement, and permission set design.
· Experience leading technical direction and developing engineers.
· Formal management experience is not required.
· Experience directing delivery partner or systems integrator teams on Salesforce.
· Operational experience: monitoring, incident management, root-cause analysis and release governance.
· Daily hands-on use of AI coding assistants (for example GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor or Agentforce for Developers), with sound judgement about when AI output cannot be trusted. Clear written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences.
· Strongly preferred: Hands-on Salesforce Order Management (SFOM) experience.
· This is a specialized area, so deep order or commerce integration experience on another platform is also welcome.
· Copado or a comparable Salesforce DevOps tool, automated testing, and release and rollback management. Experience in a SOX-controlled or similarly regulated environment.
· Multi-region or multi-country commerce rollouts.
· Growing engineers from mid-level towards senior.
· Setting AI usage standards for a team, including data-handling rules, review expectations, and ways to measure delivery impact.
Nice to have:
· Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer II, Order Management Accredited Professional, or an Architect credential.
· Familiarity with Agentforce, for working with the Service Cloud team on AI-assisted customer service.
· Service Cloud touchpoints: Care agents in Service Cloud depend on order and fulfilment data, so this role shares scope with the Service Cloud role.
· Define the order, fulfilment, return and warranty data that Service Cloud agents need, and the integration contract for it, with the Service Cloud tech lead.
· Agree how order status changes reach customer care, and how failed updates are surfaced to agents. Coordinate releases, since both teams share one codebase and release pipeline.
· Where Agentforce supports customer service, work with the Service Cloud team on the order data it uses.
Job Responsibilities
Architecture & System Design: Own the technical direction for Salesforce OMS. Define order lifecycle design, state transitions, transaction boundaries, and system-of-record responsibilities across Salesforce and integrated platforms.
Integration & Scalability: Design and review complex integrations with payment providers, logistics carriers, marketplaces, warranty services, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Design for high volumes, peak seasons, idempotency, duplicate prevention, and retries so orders are never lost or duplicated.
Global Expansion & Configuration Governance: Lead multi-region rollouts into new countries via a configuration-driven model (locale, tax, and regional differences). Govern configuration as carefully as code, requiring the same review, traceability, and testing.
Quality, Operations & Security: Set engineering standards for automated testing, CI/CD release management, structured logging, and incident response. Set up comprehensive monitoring and alerting for stuck orders and failed fulfillments. Embed security, least-privilege access, and audit-ready controls in a SOX-regulated environment.
Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor two mid-level engineers through code review, pairing, and clear growth goals. Direct partner delivery, set design standards, and review partner engineers' work before production. Lead root-cause analysis for order flow breaks, driving permanent fixes over manual workarounds.
AI Governance & Innovation: Lead AI-assisted engineering across the team to improve design, coding, testing, and debugging. Enforce strict AI governance: approved tools only, zero exposure of sensitive/customer data in prompts, strict code reviews for AI output, and specialized human-verified tests where AI touches payment or financial logic.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Plan roadmaps with product and business partners. Partner with the Service Cloud team to define integration contracts for customer care agents, agree on order status updates, coordinate shared codebase releases, and collaborate on Agentforce data usage.
