Compensation: $55-$65 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE

Brooksource is seeking a SAFe-certified Scrum Master to support a leading utility client in New York City as they scale artificial intelligence initiatives across their business. In this hybrid, contract-to-hire role, you will guide one or more agile teams building and deploying AI and data solutions-including machine learning models, generative AI tools, and intelligent automation-within a large SAFe environment. This position is ideal for a mid-level professional who enjoys bringing structure to fast-moving, experimental work and helping technical teams deliver real value to the business. You will play a key role in facilitating agile ceremonies, supporting PI Planning, managing dependencies, and driving continuous improvement, while ensuring the effective transition of AI initiatives from experimentation to production. Success in this role is measured by predictable delivery, clear stakeholder visibility, and fostering self-organizing, continuously improving teams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Facilitate Scrum and SAFe ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement
  • Participate in PI Planning and ART-level events, coordinating dependencies with other teams, the Release Train Engineer (RTE), and Product Management
  • Partner with Product Owners to keep backlogs prioritized, well-defined, and aligned to PI objectives
  • Remove impediments and escalate risks to ensure teams maintain predictable delivery
  • Guide AI and data teams in adapting agile practices for iterative work such as model experimentation, data preparation, and MLOps
  • Track and report team metrics (velocity, predictability, flow) and use them to drive continuous improvement
  • Coach team members and stakeholders on agile and SAFe principles, building a culture of transparency and accountability
  • Support governance, security, and responsible-AI checkpoints within the delivery process
  • Foster collaboration and communication between technical teams and business stakeholders
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Active SAFe certification (SAFe Scrum Master, SAFe Advanced Scrum Master, or SAFe Agilist)
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master on software, data, or technology teams
  • Hands-on experience working within a SAFe Agile Release Train, including PI Planning
  • Proficiency with agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Rally
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to work with technical teams and translate between engineers and business stakeholders
  • Experience in the utility, energy, or another regulated industry (preferred)
  • Exposure to AI, machine learning, data science, or analytics delivery teams (preferred)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), MLOps, or data engineering workflows (preferred)
  • Additional certifications such as CSM, PSM, or ICP-ACC (preferred)

  • Teams consistently meet PI objectives with predictable delivery
  • AI initiatives move from experimentation to production with clear visibility for stakeholders
  • Teams become more self-organizing and continuously improve sprint over sprint
