This is a high-level architecture/design role, which involves creating plans for application set ups and passing those plans along for other teams to execute/build. Ideal candidates should understand the configuration/set up of applications and servers. While this role does not require hands on completion, a conceptual understanding will help this person with the necessary skills to understand the components that are required for specific set ups. In general, upon receipt of a ticket for a new build design, this individual will review capacity restrictions and schedule a meeting with the (internal) customer to understand what the application does, how the team interacts with it and what the needs are. In some cases, an additional call with the vendor may be required if the application owner is unable to provide enough detail. Once requirements are understood, this team devises an architectural design including sizes, location, connection and access policies, among other specifics. Then, the design is presented and reviewed by teams including firewall, network, storage, disaster recovery, etc. Once approved, the team creates the SOW, and passes the plans along to hardware engineering to begin the build.
