Summary

Work Flexibility: Hybrid or Onsite

It's Time to Join Stryker!

Who We Want

We are looking for a curious, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and turning ideas into real products. You are comfortable working across disciplines, exploring multiple concepts, building and testing prototypes, using data to make decisions, and collaborating with others to move a design forward.

You thrive in an environment where the answer is not always obvious. You can understand a customer or clinical need, break down the problem, evaluate tradeoffs, and clearly communicate your recommendations. You enjoy working with software, hardware, clinical, quality, and other engineering partners and are motivated by the opportunity to develop technology that directly impacts patient care.

What You Will Do
  • Support the design, development, implementation, and integration of features for Stryker's Mako robotic-assisted orthopedic platform, working across software, robotic systems, implants, and surgical instrumentation.
  • Translate clinical and user needs into engineering concepts, system requirements, design inputs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and evaluate early concepts and prototypes to demonstrate feasibility, explore technical options, and inform design decisions.
  • Apply engineering judgment, experimentation, and trade-off analysis to select solutions that balance clinical, technical, and product requirements.
  • Work hands-on with integrated robotic systems throughout development to evaluate performance, investigate unexpected behavior, and identify root causes.
  • Partner closely with software, controls, mechanical, platform, and test engineers to bring system features from concept through detailed development and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements and supporting design documentation while contributing to requirements traceability and design control activities.
  • Collaborate with verification teams to ensure requirements are measurable, testable, and supported by appropriate acceptance criteria.
  • Interact directly with surgeons and other clinical stakeholders through customer discussions, evaluations, and cadaveric labs to better understand clinical workflows and incorporate feedback into product designs.
  • Analyze test and experimental data using appropriate engineering and statistical methods to support technical decisions.
  • Support features throughout the product development lifecycle, from early concept and prototyping through design, integration, commercial launch, and early post-launch support.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and challenge existing approaches when new methods could improve product performance, usability, or development efficiency.

What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in engineering product development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing, integrating, or testing robotic, electromechanical, mechatronic, or other multidisciplinary systems.
  • Experience with hands-on concept development, prototyping, system integration, testing, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience applying structured problem-solving to technical challenges, including developing concepts, evaluating alternatives, conducting experiments, and using data to make engineering decisions.
  • Experience translating product, customer, or technical needs into engineering specifications, requirements, or design criteria.
  • Familiarity with technical programming, modeling, or scripting tools such as MATLAB, C, C++, Python, or similar.
  • Experience in medical devices or another regulated or safety-critical industry.
  • Experience with systems engineering practices including requirements development, decomposition, traceability, and verification.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama or similar platforms.
  • Experience developing test criteria, performing trade studies, or applying statistical analysis to support design decisions.
  • Experience with algorithm development, modeling, simulation, or rapid prototyping.
  • Experience working directly with customers, clinicians, or end users to understand needs and evaluate product concepts.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively across technical disciplines and adapt to changing priorities.

  • $89,300 - $148,800 USD Annual
