Job Details
The Principal Project Controls Specialist provides expert leadership in schedule and cost management for large-scale power and utility infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission, electrical distribution, and data center developments. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and governing integrated project controls systems to ensure complex, mission-critical projects are delivered on time and within budget. Acting as a trusted advisor to project managers, engineers, and clients, the Principal Specialist drives best practices in Primavera P6 scheduling, cost controls, forecasting, and risk management. The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in project controls for utility-scale and data center power projects and plays a key role in strengthening the organization's project controls standards and Center of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and govern detailed project schedules and cost control systems for substation, transmission, utility, and data center power projects using Primavera P6.
- Establish baseline schedules and budgets; perform earned value analysis, forecasting, and variance analysis to proactively identify risks and mitigation strategies.
- Support project teams with change management, cost trending, and schedule impact analysis related to scope changes, utility coordination, and power infrastructure complexity.
- Integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules to ensure alignment across electrical, civil, and utility workstreams.
- Provide clear, accurate reporting and dashboards for leadership and clients, including schedule health, cost performance, and risk exposure.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for project controls staff, driving consistency, governance, and best practices across programs.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, owners, and contractors to support successful delivery of mission-critical data center and utility infrastructure.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of project controls experience supporting substation, transmission, utilities, electrical distribution, and/or data center infrastructure projects.
- Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6, including complex CPM scheduling, resource loading, and cost integration.
- Strong background in cost management, forecasting, earned value management, and change control.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Professional certification such as PMP, PSP, CCP, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Ability to work on-site and collaborate with project teams; candidate should be based in or near the Charlotte, NC area.
