Role Summary:

The Global Director for NTAM Tech serves as the primary executive leader responsible for defining and executing an integrated technology strategy and roadmap that delivers a distinctive, transparent, cost-effective, and resilient platform in support of NTAM's client, product, and partner priorities. This role oversees multiple technology functions, provides leadership to senior managers and teams, and owns the performance, development, and organizational health of the Business Unit's technology organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Partnership

Act as the strategic leader for NTAM Tech Delivery, modernization, resiliency, controls, and regulatory compliance.

Serve as an active member of the Technology Leadership Teams, translating strategic vision and business priorities into measurable technology outcomes.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders, balancing enterprise priorities with NTAM-specific objectives.
Represent NTAM technology in relevant executive forums

Operational Excellence & Risk Management

Risk and controls - Monthly reviews with TRC, ITOC/IREC/ITAM; quarterly/as requested with BU R&C committees

Cyber security - Weekly review with CISO; monthly projects review with CISO + CIO directs

Business relationship management - Attend senior business leadership meetings, social events; regular 1:1s; PI planning/QBRs/BIC meetings

Strategic advising - Partner with bus leaders to design digital op model with leading tech solutions; ARBs

Roadmaps - Oversees process from start of capital planning to workshops, estimations, plan dev, and execution

Execution delivery management
  • Portfolio risk review and escalation mgmt. (monthly with directs + BU leadership; exec steercos for critical projects)
  • Stand ups, retrospectives, project/vendor escalation

Enterprise & Third-Party Collaboration

Promote a unified One IT operating model to the business by partnering with Enterprise Technology teams to deliver various IT services to the business.
Oversee relationships with technology contractors and service providers.
Partner with Shared Services (in WM / NTAM Technology as well as Enterprise) to optimize scalability, efficiency, and delivery speed.

Innovation, Client, and Market Engagement

Identify emerging technologies to drive competitive advantage.
Support business development and key client engagements where technology is central.

Financial & Resource Stewardship

Maintain accountability for performance, productivity, and profitability.

Qualifications & Experience

20+ years leading enterprise-scale CIO or Head of Technology functions in financial services institutions.
Management consulting experience strongly preferred.
Proven experience representing business and technology at the Board and Management Committee level.
Extensive experience engaging with Audit, external auditors, and global regulators.
Demonstrated success balancing enterprise mandates with NTAM objectives in Risk Committees.
Strong track record overseeing technology contractors and service providers.

Technical & Business Expertise

Deep asset management domain expertise across public and private markets.
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and financial services technology.
Experience implementing and scaling AI within an investments business.

Leadership & Collaboration

Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills.
Ability to lead high-performing teams in highly matrixed environments.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Salary Range:
$240,000 to $350,000 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits.
