Summary

Our Client is seeking an Observability & APM Architect that will lead client engagements focused on designing, assessing, and optimizing observability strategies across applications, infrastructure, and operations. This contractor will help customers rationalize their monitoring toolsets, select the right platforms, run proofs of concept, and build actionable observability roadmaps that align with business outcomes. This role requires a strong understanding of the observability ecosystem including APM, infrastructure monitoring, event correlation, and modern monitoring architectures as well as the ability to translate that knowledge into practical recommendations for enterprise clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end observability engagements, from discovery through recommendations and implementation planning.
  • Assess a client's current monitoring landscape and identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for consolidation.
  • Define observability best practices across metrics, logs, traces, events, and synthetic monitoring.
  • Guide customers in building scalable, modern observability architectures, cloud, data, and security capabilities.
  • Evaluate and compare observability tools across APM, infrastructure monitoring, and AIOps.
  • Provide expert guidance on platforms such as:
    • New Relic APM
    • LogicMonitor Infrastructure Monitoring
    • BigPanda AIOps / Event Correlation
  • Conduct tool rationalization exercises (e.g., reducing a 30-tool footprint down to a streamlined, cost-efficient stack).
  • Recommend the right tool(s) based on customer environment, maturity, and business goals.
  • Design and run proofs of concept (POCs) to validate tool capabilities and fit.
  • Help clients evaluate and select event management and incident response platforms that improve operational efficiency.
  • Advise on integrating monitoring data with AIOps platforms for noise reduction, correlation, and automated workflows.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong understanding of observability concepts: metrics, logs, traces, events, SLOs, distributed tracing, and telemetry pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with APM and monitoring tools (New Relic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, LogicMonitor, Datadog, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AIOps/event correlation platforms (BigPanda, Moogsoft, ServiceNow Event Management).
  • Experience running POCs, tool evaluations, or vendor comparisons.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into business-aligned recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort leading customer-facing conversations.
