Summary

Role: Database Administrator

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid)

Duration: Long Term

Need only locals to Texas

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enters codes to create production database.
  • Selects and enters codes of utility program to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory.
  • Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system.
  • Reviews and corrects programs.
  • Answers user questions.
  • Confers with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to database.
  • Modifies database programs to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning.
  • Workers typically specialize in one or more types of database management systems.
  • Provides assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems, and ensures that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment.
  • Evaluates users'' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporates them into the existing shared data environment, and provides technical assistance.
  • Coordinates the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, loads databases, and reorganizes as needed.
  • Performs data modeling and prototyping.
  • Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
  • Performs security recovery procedures.
  • Determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintains data dictionary, ensuring uniformity of definitions and setting standards for use of the data dictionary.
  • Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
  • Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
  • Executes the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures within established procedures.
  • Assists with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security and with monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
  • Assists with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
  • Assists in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases and with establishing and controlling necessary database security.
  • Assists in the selection of database management software.
  • Ensures that user interfaces for database administration and for inputting, viewing, and outputting data (via reports) are compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Provides support to users in obtaining data/information when EIR Accessibility issues arise.
  • Supports the installation of database software and migrations to new data management system software levels and tests the migrations to ensure data reliability and functionality.
  • Analyzes, designs, modifies, and maintains database structures.
  • Designs and implements procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures.
  • Establishes and implements database security controls and user access levels.
  • Evaluates and recommends database software packages for potential acquisition.
  • Prepares and develops database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries.
  • Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
  • Performs database performance monitoring and implements efficiency improvements.
  • Assists in modifying existing databases and database management systems.
  • Assists in developing standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with Database Management Systems (DBMS), Data Warehouse Management, and Decision Support Systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses and data marts.
  • 5+ years of experience with Business Objects and developing/maintaining enterprise data dictionaries.
  • 5+ years of experience using database access tools to support application delivery.
  • 5+ years of experience in analysis, planning, and management reporting functions.
  • 5+ years of experience demonstrating strong oral and written communication skills.
  • 5+ years of experience working effectively in team environments with strong interpersonal skills.
  • 5+ years of experience applying advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to complex technical and business challenges.
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing benchmarking processes and performance measurement techniques.
  • 5+ years of experience collaborating with stakeholders, motivating teams, and driving successful outcomes.
  • 5+ years of experience with data warehousing, data population strategies, and data modeling techniques, including Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and highly normalized data models.
  • 5+ years of experience using GUI-based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar technologies.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting enterprise-class databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, or comparable platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing and utilizing analytical and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy, or similar solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience throughout the full data warehouse lifecycle, including business requirements gathering, logical and physical data modeling, database design, data sourcing, data transformation, ETL development, data loading, SQL programming, and reporting.
  • 5+ years of experience demonstrating strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • 5+ years of experience working successfully with both technical and non-technical teams while managing multiple priorities and responsibilities.
  • 5+ years of experience with Oracle Database.
  • 5+ years of experience creating and developing SSRS reports.

1+ year of experience with the M204 database.
