SAP ABAP Developer

Contract Length: 6 months +

Hybrid Role: Must be onsite first 2 weeks Monday through Friday and then every 2 weeks they will be onsite Tuesday-Thursday
Work Location: Gas Tower, Downtown LA

It is a w2 position.

Can work with H1 Transfer Visa.

Role Summary

Our client is seeking a Senior SAP ABAP Developer with 10+ years of hands-on ABAP development experience and strong SAP IS-U (Industry Solution for Utilities) expertise to support its enterprise SAP modernization and production support initiatives as part of the Vista Program.

This individual will play a critical role supporting production environments, hypercare activities, system enhancements, and complex troubleshooting across SAP IS-U and integrated SAP applications. The ideal candidate combines deep ABAP development expertise with a strong understanding of utility business processes and enterprise SAP landscapes.

This role requires someone who can quickly diagnose production issues, collaborate with functional teams, develop technical solutions, and support critical production deployments in a highly integrated SAP environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain complex SAP ABAP applications supporting SAP IS-U and integrated SAP modules.
• Support production incidents, hypercare activities, and post-deployment stabilization for enterprise SAP environments.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues through debugging, root cause analysis, and implementation of permanent solutions.
• Develop and maintain custom programs, reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms, user exits, BAdIs, BAPIs, RFCs, and IDoc integrations.
• Partner closely with SAP functional analysts, business stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and other technical resources to resolve business-critical issues.
• Participate in production deployments, transport management, cutover activities, and post-implementation validation.
• Optimize existing ABAP code for performance, maintainability, and long-term supportability.
• Support SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments, including migration and modernization initiatives where applicable.
• Document technical designs, development standards, and production support procedures.

Required Technical Skills

• 10+ years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience in enterprise SAP environments.
• Strong experience supporting SAP IS-U (Industry Solution for Utilities).

• Experience supporting production environments, hypercare, and critical production deployments.
• Experience with SAP transport management and change management processes.
• Strong understanding of SAP integration patterns and enterprise application architecture.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and functional teams in Agile delivery environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA migration or modernization initiatives.
• Experience with SAP Fiori, SAP Gateway, or OData services.
• Experience working within large utility organizations.
• Experience supporting highly integrated enterprise SAP landscapes.
• Knowledge of SAP performance tuning and optimization.
• Experience mentoring junior ABAP developers and participating in technical design discussions.
