About the Team

The Growth Engineering team builds experiences and platforms that drive sustainable growth across the Poshmark marketplace. The team works across the customer journey-from acquisition and onboarding to engagement, retention, and reactivation-using technology, data, and experimentation to create meaningful customer and business impact.

Growth Engineering operates in highly collaborative, cross-functional squads, partnering closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Analytics, Marketing, and other engineering teams.

As Director of Engineering (Growth), you will lead multiple engineering teams and managers responsible for critical growth initiatives across Poshmark. You will shape the technical strategy, build strong engineering leaders, and create a culture focused on customer outcomes, experimentation, execution, and engineering excellence.

This is not a pure management role. We expect our Directors to have the technical depth to engage in architecture discussions, challenge technical decisions, and help teams navigate complex technical and product problems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers across the Growth organization.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Analytics, and Marketing to define Growth strategy, roadmaps, and priorities.
  • Drive measurable improvements across acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and other key growth opportunities.
  • Build a strong experimentation culture, enabling teams to rapidly test, learn, iterate, and scale successful ideas.
  • Drive execution across complex, cross-functional initiatives while improving predictability and time-to-market.
  • Develop Engineering Managers, senior technical leaders, and future leaders across the organization.
  • Define and evolve the technical strategy and architecture needed to support Poshmark's long-term growth.
  • Maintain a high bar for engineering excellence, including automated testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, performance, and operational ownership.
  • Champion incremental development and frequent production deployments, enabling teams to learn and deliver value quickly.
  • Balance product delivery with investments in technical health, scalability, developer productivity, and platform modernization.
  • Own organizational planning, staffing, hiring, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Foster a high-performing engineering culture built around clear ownership, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and end-to-end ownership.
Requirements
Required
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience building high-scale consumer products or distributed systems.
  • 7+ years of engineering leadership experience, including experience leading Engineering Managers and multiple engineering teams.
  • Proven track record delivering complex, high-impact product and technology initiatives.
  • Strong technical depth with the ability to participate meaningfully in architecture, system design, and technical strategy discussions.
  • Experience building experimentation-driven products and using data to make product and engineering decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product, Design, Data Science, Analytics, Marketing, and other business functions.
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, and scalable system design.
  • Experience developing engineering leaders and building high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior technical, product, and executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment with ambiguity and evolving priorities.
Preferred
  • Experience leading Growth Engineering in marketplaces, e-commerce, social, or other high-scale consumer products, including globally distributed teams.
  • Experience with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) and MarTech ecosystems, including segmentation, lifecycle marketing, personalization, attribution, analytics, and cross-channel activation.
  • Experience building and scaling experimentation, personalization, and AI/ML-driven growth capabilities to improve customer acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Demonstrated success driving engineering and organizational transformation, including modernizing platforms, practices, and ways of working.
