About the Role

Our direct client, a highly successful, well-established B2C company, is undertaking a high-impact modernization of mission-critical systems currently running on IBM i. This role sits at the center of that transformation bridging deep legacy expertise with modern architecture.

You ll partner closely with key internal technical SMEs to stabilize, decode, and systematically evolve core platforms including transaction processing, accounting pipelines, product creation, and inventory management into a scalable .NET and Salesforce ecosystem backed by SQL Server.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can both operate in the legacy environment today and contribute to designing the future state architecture and code migration/refactoring.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly analyze and map complex IBM i (RPG/DB2) systems, including code, data flows, and dependencies

• Extract and translate embedded business logic into clear, usable documentation for engineering and business teams

• Build and implement AI-assisted workflows to accelerate code analysis, documentation, and refactoring

• Define and execute a pragmatic, phased modernization roadmap to .NET and Salesforce

• Assist with migration of core functionality (~70 80% to .NET, ~20 30% to Salesforce)

• Architect and oversee DB2 / SQL Server data transition

• Contribute to architectural decisions for modern systems (scalability, performance, maintainability)

• Partner with internal tech team and SMEs to accelerate knowledge transfer

• Provide hands-on support for critical IBM i operations during transition

Desired experience

• Deep, hands-on expertise with IBM i / i5/OS (AS/400), RPG, and DB2

• Proven track record modernizing or decomposing legacy platforms

• Experience working across legacy + modern stacks (.NET, SQL Server; Salesforce would all be pluses)

• Practical use of AI tools for code analysis, documentation, code refactoring, or modernization workflows

• Strong architectural instincts with the ability to balance speed vs. long-term design

• Experience leading or influencing modernization initiatives end-to-end

• Excellent communication skills able to translate legacy complexity into clear direction

• Collaborative, low-ego approach to working alongside existing teams
