On the Evaluation Platform Team, engineers have a front-row seat to how AI impacts millions of users, helping steer one of Microsoft's most important initiatives forward. The team is focused on advancing the evaluation system that supports builders and partners across M365.
The mission is to accelerate learning by ensuring every user journey within an evaluation system (fine tuning a model, launching a new feature or experiment, adding metrics, onboarding a new 1P or 3P partner, understanding user feedback, creating query sets, etc.) is supported by agile, reliable, scalable and well documented tools.
In this role, the engineer will build capabilities that:
- Enable builders to be more agile, running more evaluations and faster.
- Provide a continuous set of tools and evaluation capabilities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Automate tasks via tools or agents to help understand performance better.

Responsibilities- Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
- Support identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.
- Learn to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
- Learn and assist in breaking down work items into tasks and provide estimation of completion.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and also recommend actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
- Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Self-motivated and outcomes-focused, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
