Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Test Technician to support assembly and testing activities for SPARC components under the SATP program. This individual will work alongside the Lead Mechanical Technician to execute critical vacuum and pressure testing operations in a high-performance engineering environment. The role requires strong hands-on technical expertise in leak detection, vacuum systems, and mechanical assembly within high-hazard environments.
Job Responsibilities:
* Perform advanced helium leak detection using tracer probe, hood, and helium-filled object techniques.
* Execute pneumatic pressure testing protocols in accordance with safety and engineering standards.
* Set up, connect, and operate vacuum systems including turbomolecular pumps and mass spectrometer leak detectors (MSLD).
* Install and handle vacuum and fluid system components, including KF, CF, VCR, compression fittings, and NPT connections.
* Support assembly and testing activities for complex mechanical systems and sub-assemblies.
* Troubleshoot vacuum system integrity issues and implement effective leak detection strategies.
* Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to ensure testing accuracy and system performance.
* Maintain adherence to safety standards while working in high-risk environments including vacuum, pressure, and cryogenic systems.
Required Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent required.
* Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical testing, vacuum systems, or leak detection as a lead or senior technician.
* Experience with helium leak detection methods and vacuum system troubleshooting.
* Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in complex assembly environments.
* Ability to work safely in high-hazard environments including pressure systems and vacuum conditions.
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Formal training in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) with a minimum of 40 hours of classroom training.
* ASNT Level II certification (or eligibility) in Leak Testing (LT).
* Experience working in fusion, high-vacuum, or similar advanced technical environments.
* Experience supporting pressure testing and system validation processes.
