Analytics Data EngineerWaterloo, ON (4 days onsite)
12-month contract (extendable)
T4 employment - $60 - 75/HR
OverviewThis analytics data team is responsible for transforming large-scale operational and telemetry-style data into
trusted, actionable insights that directly influence engineering decisions, product strategy, customer experience, and executive direction.
This role sits at the intersection of
analytics, data engineering, and business strategy. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of data - from validating and understanding raw data sources, to structuring and analyzing datasets, to delivering insights that stakeholders can confidently act on.
You will work closely with engineering, product, and business teams to ensure data accurately reflects real-world behavior and supports meaningful decision-making. Success in this role comes from the ability to
work through ambiguity, validate data rigorously, and translate technical findings into clear business outcomes.
This is not a purely pipeline-driven role. The team is looking for someone who understands
what the data means and how it drives decisions, not just how it is built.

- Validate and ensure data quality and integrity across the full analytical lifecycle
- Translate loosely defined business problems into structured analytical approaches

- Deliver insights through clear visualizations, dashboards, and stakeholder-ready narratives
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure data reflects real-world business and product context
Data Engineering & Pipeline Development (~30%)- Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines across structured and semi-structured data sources
- Work with APIs and large-scale data ingestion processes
- Transform raw data into clean, analytics-ready datasets
- Contribute to cloud-based data workflows (Google Cloud Platform preferred; AWS/Azure experience transferable)
- Support scalable and maintainable data architecture for long-term analytics
Collaboration & Data Enablement (~10%)- Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions
- Maintain shared data models, documentation, and analytics frameworks
- Ensure data solutions are reliable, reusable, and scalable
- Communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience working with SQL and Python for data analysis and transformation
- Strong experience working with large and complex datasets, including data validation and troubleshooting
- Proven ability to translate business questions into analytical solutions and insights
- Experience building or supporting data pipelines / ETL workflows
- Strong understanding of data quality, reconciliation, and root cause analysis
- Experience working directly with stakeholders and delivering insights
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred; AWS/Azure also acceptable)
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
Nice to Have- Experience with statistical modeling, experimentation, or predictive analysis
- Experience working with high-volume or event-based datasets (e.g., telemetry, IoT)
- Exposure to Google Cloud Platform tools such as BigQuery, Dataflow, or dbt
Work Environment- Hybrid model: 4 days onsite in Waterloo
- Fast-paced, highly collaborative team working closely with business stakeholders
What Success Looks Like- You understand not just how data is built, but what it represents and how it drives decisions
- You ensure data is accurate, trusted, and validated before use
- You can take ambiguous problems and turn them into clear analytical outcomes
- You communicate complex findings in a way that enables real business action
