Your role and responsibilities
Software Developer, IBM Corporation, Bellevue, WA (Up to 60% telecommuting permitted):
- Analyze system logs, performance metrics, and customer-reported issues to diagnose root causes of complex application or network concerns.
- Design solutions, including drafting architecture diagrams and technical specifications of new components of Astra/Apache Cassandra-related software, that enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Integrate advanced features to support enterprise GenAI applications.
- Implement solutions in computer languages, applying advanced concepts in distributed computing and software engineering.
- Perform systems management and integration functions, ensuring compatibility across modules and APIs.
- Deploy and manage solutions in multi-cloud environments to ensure seamless scalability and reliability.
- Optimize performance by refining algorithms and enhancing concurrency to handle large-scale workloads.
- Create new database features that meet scalability, availability, and multi-tenancy requirements.
- Enhance existing functionality to improve system performance and end-user experience.
- Engineer core infrastructure for GenAI, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for augmented retrieval and Hybrid Search combining lexical and vector searches.
- Diagnose and resolve defects through rigorous debugging, testing, and code review.
- Coordinate software release processes, integrating deliverables from multiple engineering teams.
- Collaborate with GenAI-related teams to integrate GenAI features for AI-powered agents and workflows.
- Provide ongoing support for customers, including troubleshooting escalations and delivering fixes.
- Review and contribute to technical documentation to ensure accuracy and clarity for users.
- Utilize: Java, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Hybrid Search, Reactive Programming, Apache Cassandra, Kubernetes (K8s), gRPC (gRPC Remote Procedure Calls).
Required: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related (employer will accept a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of progressive experience in lieu of a Master's degree) and one (1) year of experience as a Software Engineer, Distributed Software Engineer or related. The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
