Business Objective
The Data Platform & Engineering organization is seeking a Senior Databricks Platform Engineer /
Administrator to help own and evolve the enterprise Databricks platform. This team serves as the central platform for Databricks, enabling other engineering and application teams across the organization.
This role will help the organization scale its use of Databricks by making it easier for teams to onboard, provision, access, and adopt new platform capabilities while maintaining appropriate security, governance, and operational controls.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on Databricks administration experience along with a platform engineering mindset. They will help evaluate emerging Databricks capabilities, determine how they can be safely adopted at enterprise scale, and build repeatable and automated approaches for enabling them.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Serve as a subject matter expert and technical owner for the enterprise Databricks platform.
* Support onboarding and enablement of internal teams onto Databricks.
* Manage and maintain Databricks workspaces, configurations, access, and platform capabilities.
* Use Terraform and Infrastructure as Code to automate provisioning and platform configuration.
* Partner with Security, Cloud Platform Engineering, Data Engineering, Architecture, and application teams
to ensure platform capabilities are enabled securely and appropriately.
* Evaluate new Databricks features and capabilities and make recommendations for enterprise adoption.
* Help establish appropriate access, governance, security, and operational controls for new capabilities.
* Support the adoption of emerging Databricks AI/ML and Data Intelligence capabilities.
* Troubleshoot platform issues and work with internal teams and Databricks vendor resources to resolve complex problems.
* Identify opportunities to improve automation, scalability, reliability, and the overall developer/user experience of the platform.
* Provide technical guidance and recommendations to teams using or looking to expand their use of Databricks.
Required Qualifications:
* 5+ years of hands-on experience administering, engineering, or supporting Databricks in an enterprise environment.
* Experience managing Databricks across multiple workspaces or large-scale environments.
* Strong understanding of Databricks administration, platform configuration, access management, and governance.
* Hands-on experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code and platform automation.
* Experience working with Azure cloud environments.
* Strong understanding of security, access controls, data governance, and enterprise technology controls.
* Ability to evaluate new technologies and understand their operational, security, and governance
implications.
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and platform users.
* Comfortable working across teams and acting as a technical subject matter expert.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with newer Databricks capabilities such as Genie, AI/BI, Mosaic AI, machine learning, model serving, or Data Intelligence.
* Experience enabling AI/ML capabilities within an enterprise environment.
* Experience supporting platforms with sensitive or regulated data, such as PII or PHI.
* Experience with CI/CD, Azure DevOps, GitHub, or other platform automation tools.
* Experience developing reusable Terraform modules or automated provisioning patterns.
* Databricks certifications.
* Experience working directly with cloud technology vendors or Databricks.
* Experience in a large, complex, highly regulated enterprise environment.
