Job Title: Support Engineer III / Component Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months (Potential for Extension/Conversion)
About the Role
Client is looking for a Component Engineer to support the hardware development process for consumer electronics products. This role focuses on selecting, testing, validating, and managing electronic components used in hardware devices. The engineer will work closely with hardware design teams, operations, manufacturing partners, and ECAD teams to ensure components meet technical, quality, cost, and lifecycle requirements throughout product development and production. This is a highly hands-on role involving component analysis, testing equipment, electrical schematics, failure analysis, and engineering change management.
Key Responsibilities
• Review all requests for new components and assure that the parts can satisfy the existing design requirements.
• Assign inventory part numbers and construct standardized descriptions for all new parts.
• Establish and maintain specifications for custom and off-the-shelf components.
• Generate specifications for new custom parts.
• Assist design engineers in the selection of parts that best fit their requirements.
• Read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and component data sheets.
• Work within the parameters of PLM to coordinate component approval and EOL/Obsolete status.
• Authorize ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders) written against component and specifications.
• Interface with the ECAD team in the maintenance of Libraries and Databases.
• Coordinate failure analysis and root cause/corrective actions with internal and vendor teams. Experience in dealing with external labs.
• Value engineering (cost reduction). Work with cross-functional teams to source and suggest alternate parts. Teams will include SW Development, Operations Management, Materials Management, and Hardware Design Engineering.
• Participate in product design reviews.
• Test plan execution and creation.
Must Haves:
1. Experienced with many types of components such as SoC’s, chipsets, memories, PMIC’s, MOSFET’s, diodes, resistors, inductors, capacitors, connectors and cable assemblies
2. Demonstrated competence in the usage of digital oscilloscopes, multi-meters, LCR meters, curve-tracers, and related component test equipment.
3. Experienced with ROHS/WEEE requirements and current exemptions. • Experienced interfacing with contract manufacturers.
