Summary

Scrum Master
Philadelphia, PA 19103 (hybrid)
Pay: $70,000-$80,000

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Scrum Master who is passionate about enabling high-performing, self-organizing teams to deliver complex software products. You will champion Agile principles while deeply understanding the technical and functional aspects of modern applications built on microservices, React, Node.js, Java, and databases like PostgreSQL and MongoDB.

This is not a purely administrative role — you will actively coach teams, remove impediments, facilitate excellence in delivery, and help connect the dots across development, QA, product, and program management in a large-scale software environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives) and ensure they deliver real value.
  • Coach and mentor Development, QA Automation, and cross-functional teams on Agile practices, self-organization, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion self-forming “tiger teams” — enable small, empowered groups of experts to tackle critical challenges with autonomy and speed.
  • Remove impediments and shield teams from distractions while collaborating effectively with Product Owners, Project Managers, and Program Managers.
  • Work closely with technical teams to understand application architecture, functionality, dependencies, and challenges in microservices environments.
  • Promote modern Agile engineering practices including shift-left testing, CI/CD integration, test automation, and data-driven retrospectives.
  • Track and report on team velocity, burndown, risks, and delivery metrics while helping scale Agile practices across the organization.
  • Foster strong collaboration between Development, QA, Product, and Stakeholder groups to ensure alignment and high-quality outcomes.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Agile Expertise: Certified Scrum Master (CSM/PSM) or equivalent; deep knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and hybrid Agile approaches.
  • Hands-on Delivery: Proven ability to lead and organize teams delivering complex software projects. Experience working directly with microservices architecture is highly valued.
  • Technical Appreciation: Strong interest in understanding software functionality, architecture (Java, functional languages, Node.js/Express, React, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and quality practices. Prior development or QA background is a big plus.
  • Team Leadership: Deep appreciation for self-organizing teams and the ability to build high-trust, high-performance environments.
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience working across pillars of large software organizations — Development, QA, Product Ownership, Project/Program Management.

Best Qualities We Seek (Top-Performing Scrum Masters)

  • Servant Leadership: Leads by serving the team, not directing it.
  • Excellent Facilitation and Communication: Skilled at running effective meetings, conflict resolution, and translating between technical and business language.
  • Adaptability and Coaching: Helps teams continuously improve and embraces latest trends like AI-augmented Agile workflows.
  • Technical Curiosity: Loves diving into the “moving pieces” of complex applications to better support the team.
  • Organizational Impact: Able to navigate enterprise environments while protecting team agility.

Modern Agile and Tools Experience (Highly Valued)

Top Scrum Masters today leverage:

  • AI-powered tools for planning, retrospectives, and workflow optimization.
  • Modern collaboration platforms (Jira, Git projects, Confluence, Linear, Miro).
  • CI/CD visibility and DevOps practices.
  • Data-driven decision making and metrics for team health.
  • Hybrid/distributed team facilitation techniques.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 4+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach in software development environments.
  • Demonstrated success enabling self-organizing teams and delivering complex projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Passionate about quality software delivery, team empowerment, and continuous learning.

If you are a proactive Agile leader who thrives on understanding both people dynamics and technical complexity, and you want to drive meaningful impact in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!
