Role Overview:The Lead Migration Engineer is responsible for planning and executing the migration of SharePoint sites, data, permissions, and supporting components into Google Workspace Shared Drives. This role ensures a secure, validated, and well documented migration while supporting end users and internal IT teams through training and transition.
Required Skills
- 5 10+ years in SharePoint, Google Workspace, or cloud content migration.
- Experience with migration tools (AvePoint FLY, CloudM, ShareGate, Google Workspace Migrate, or scripting).
- Strong understanding of permissions, metadata, versioning, and API constraints.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to support end?user training and UAT processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Migration Planning & Discovery:
- Perform discovery of SharePoint sites, libraries, metadata, permissions, workflows, and dependencies.
- Produce technical assessments, data mapping matrices, and migration plans.
- Identify constraints (API limits, versioning behavior, item limits) and propose mitigation strategies.
Environment Preparation:
- Validate access and readiness of SharePoint source systems.
- Prepare Google Shared Drives, folder structures, permission groups, and mapping scripts.
- Document all readiness steps using client templates.
Migration Execution:
- Lead pilot and full migration activities, ensuring data integrity through checksum validation.
- Migrate documents, metadata, permissions, major versions, lists, site pages, and Infopath XML data.
- Maintain detailed migration logs, exception reports, and remediation plans.
Permission & Validation:
- Map SharePoint permissions to Google Workspace roles with high accuracy.
- Produce pre? and post?migration permission comparison reports.
- Support UAT, defect resolution, and final validation.
Documentation Ownership:
- Create and maintain all required technical documents, including:
- Discovery Report
- Data Mapping Matrix
- Migration Runbook
- Validation Reports
- Issue & Remediation Log
- Knowledge Transfer materials
- Ensure documentation meets PMO and audit standards.
End?User Training & Support:
- Develop clear, accessible training materials for end users and super users.
- Deliver Train?the?Trainer sessions and recorded walkthroughs.
- Support communication and OCM activities related to the migration.
Hypercare & Transition:
- Provide post?cutover support for four weeks.
- Monitor performance, resolve issues, and finalize lessons learned.
- Transition knowledge to operational support teams.
Preferred:
- Google Workspace Admin certification
- Microsoft 365/SharePoint certifications
- Experience with workflow tools (e.g., Kissflow)
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Apps Script)
