Job Title: Power Systems Network Modeling Engineer
Location: Hybrid Taylor, TX (On-site minimum twice per week)
Job Summary
The Power Systems Network Modeling Engineer provides backfill support for transmission network modeling activities. This role supports Senior Modelers by increasing capacity to address modeling questions and by assisting with coordination of the CIM 16 Upgrade Project. The position plays a key role in maintaining accurate operational and planning models of the transmission system.
Key Responsibilities
Model Development
- Develop and maintain operational models using the Network Model Management System (NMMS).
- Collaborate with Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG) members on model data exchange and transmission network maintenance.
- Review generator and transmission equipment data submitted by resource entities and coordinate corrections of invalid or incomplete data.
Modeling Application Support
- Manage transmission system modeling software infrastructure, including databases, data exchange interfaces, and export formats.
- Develop and maintain modeling tools in C# and Java to validate transmission network data using electrical engineering principles.
- Create and maintain data validation rules for operations and planning models using SQL.
- Manage projects related to NMMS and MOD application upgrades, including implementing new functionality, reviewing system patches, and assisting with server administration.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide training and mentoring to members of the Engineering Development Program (EDP).
- Work closely with internal teams including Network Model Maintenance, Network Model Coordination, Resource Integration, System Operations, System Planning, Forward Markets, Client Services, and Grid Applications Development.
- Review, draft, and present updates to protocols, guides, procedures, and training materials related to modeling for EDP participants and Market Participants.
- Review changes to NERC standards and assess impacts on modeling methodologies.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
Skills
- Experience with at least one programming language: C#, Java, or Python.
- SQL experience preferred.
- Familiarity with tools such as Git/Bitbucket and Jira preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Experience
- Minimum 1 2 years of progressively responsible experience as a power systems engineer or similar role (beyond degree requirements).
- Experience within the electric utility industry is preferred.
Work Location & Conditions
- Hybrid work arrangement with a requirement to be on-site at least two days per week in Taylor, TX, or more as business needs require.
- On-site presence may be required during tight grid conditions or emergency grid operations.
- Work arrangements are subject to change based on business needs.
