Summary

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Data Center Technicians to support critical data center operations, hardware deployments, infrastructure upgrades, and decommissioning activities within a fast-paced, large-scale environment. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in hardware installation, cabling, troubleshooting, server maintenance, and data center operations who are looking to contribute to high-visibility infrastructure projects while advancing their technical careers.
The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team to deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and decommission data center hardware while adhering to established operational procedures, safety standards, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Installation & Deployment:

  • Prepare, stage, set up, install, and configure data center hardware including servers, racks, hard drives, switches, and related equipment.
  • Perform equipment startups, shutdowns, and hardware deployment activities following written procedures, technical documentation, and established protocols.
  • Run, label, organize, and stage power and network cabling according to deployment standards.
  • Support hardware refreshes, upgrades, and infrastructure expansion projects.
  • Assist with GPU deployment initiatives and large-scale hardware installations.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on servers, networking equipment, and infrastructure components.
  • Identify root causes of hardware and system issues and replace faulty components as needed.
  • Monitor systems for equipment failures, performance issues, and operational errors.
  • Respond to incidents and escalate issues appropriately following standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in testing, validation, and operational readiness activities.

Data Center Operations:

  • Conduct post-deployment quality checks to verify proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
  • Support network cable removal and data center decommissioning efforts.
  • Perform physical audits of data center assets and inventory.
  • Execute hardware decommissioning, memory upgrades, operating system rebuilds, and other refresh activities with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of work performed.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all work adheres to deployment standards, safety protocols, and site-specific requirements.
  • Utilize provided personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate incidents, risks, and operational concerns to technical leads in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in a data center, IT hardware, server operations, or related technical environment.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware deployment, installation, cabling, break/fix repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware, servers, and infrastructure components.
  • Basic networking knowledge and experience working with network cabling.
  • Experience following documented procedures, technical instructions, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GPU deployments and high-performance computing hardware.
  • Previous experience as a cable technician, cable installer, cable puller, or warehouse technician.
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Programming, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data center operations and infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of asset management and inventory auditing processes.

Work Environment

  • Large-scale data center environment with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Physical work involving lifting, moving, racking, and decommissioning equipment.
  • Fast-paced operational environment supporting critical infrastructure projects.
  • PPE provided and required as applicable.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sandston, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
