Position OverviewApex Systems is seeking an experienced
Solutions Architect to support a growing fulfillment integrations team at Instacart. This is a net-new position created to support continued team growth and an expanding pipeline of retailer integration projects.
The Solutions Architect will be responsible for designing and delivering integrations between Instacart's fulfillment network and external grocery retailer fulfillment systems. This is a highly hands-on role that combines
solution architecture, API integration, technical documentation, and stakeholder communication.
The ideal candidate has successfully designed, built, and launched
internal-to-external API integrations from the ground up and can clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and external client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Design end-to-end technical solutions integrating Instacart's fulfillment systems with external grocery retailer platforms.
- Architect and build API integrations from scratch, with a strong understanding of system interactions, data flows, and integration architecture.
- Develop system design flows, integration use cases, and technical walkthroughs.
- Create prototypes and visual integration diagrams using tools such as Lucidchart or similar platforms.
- Produce detailed solution design documents and technical documentation to support implementation.
- Develop and present technical solution designs using Google Slides or similar presentation tools.
- Partner directly with retailer technical teams to understand requirements and translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Collaborate closely with internal Product and Engineering teams throughout the design and implementation lifecycle.
- Communicate retailer integration requirements and technical details across internal stakeholders.
- Support integrations through implementation and successful production deployment.
Required Qualifications- Demonstrated experience designing and building API integrations from scratch, particularly integrations connecting internal platforms with external systems.
- Strong understanding of API architecture, data flows, system design, and how distributed systems communicate.
- Experience taking integrations beyond design and successfully deploying solutions into production.
- Hands-on technical background with a modern programming language such as Python, Ruby, Java, C++, or similar.
- Experience creating technical architecture diagrams, solution design documentation, and system flows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both highly technical engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working directly with external clients or partners in a technical capacity.
- Proven ability to collaborate across Product, Engineering, and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working with Ruby, as it is a primary language within Instacart's environment.
- Previous experience within fulfillment, third-party fulfillment, logistics, supply chain, or e-commerce environments.
- Experience designing integrations between enterprise platforms and external customer or partner systems.
- Background with organizations operating complex fulfillment or technology ecosystems, such as Amazon, Shopify, Google, or comparable companies.
- Experience supporting large-scale retailer or enterprise integrations.
Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will be a technically strong architect who still enjoys being
hands-on. They should be equally comfortable whiteboarding an integration architecture, digging into API and data-flow requirements, producing a detailed solution design document, and presenting the solution to a retailer or internal engineering team.
Specific programming-language experience is less important than having a demonstrated track record of
building, shipping, and supporting real-world API integrations in production.
Interview ProcessCandidates should expect a
three-stage interview process consisting of:
