Platform Infrastructure Engineer (VMware)

Job Title: Platform Infrastructure Engineer (Resource & Application Mapping)

Job Overview: We are seeking experienced Platform Infrastructure Engineers to support critical integration efforts involving Discover and Capital One. These roles are platform-focused and centered on mapping resources and applications across underlying infrastructure to provide a comprehensive, holistic view of the environment. The ideal candidates will have strong infrastructure expertise, storage knowledge, and scripting capabilities to analyze large-scale environments and produce meaningful outputs from their findings.

Team Structure: The team focuses on infrastructure from the ground up within data center environments (excluding power), with an additional mainframe division not in scope for these roles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform resource and application mapping across complex infrastructure environments.
• Analyze and document underlying infrastructure components across hundreds to thousands of devices.
• Understand and map storage objects to the applications utilizing them.
• Develop outputs and reports based on discovery findings using scripting and analytical tools.
• Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to support ongoing integration initiatives.
• Communicate technical findings clearly to stakeholders.
• Contribute to foundational infrastructure efforts within data centers and related facilities (e.g., colo regional hubs, strategic edge locations).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of operating systems and infrastructure, including ESX/VMware, Windows, Unix, and Linux.
• Deep knowledge of storage concepts such as shared LUNs, clustered file systems, NAS, NFS, and SMB mounts.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell and Python.
• Experience using tools like Excel or Google Sheets to organize and present technical data.
• Ability to work across large-scale environments and create holistic infrastructure mappings.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical insights effectively.

Top Must-Have Skills:

1. VMware/ESX and compute infrastructure expertise.
2. Storage mapping and the ability to connect storage objects to applications.
3. Strong communication skills to clearly convey discoveries and technical outputs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting large infrastructure integrations or data center-related initiatives.
• Familiarity with carrier or leased infrastructure environments such as Equinix or Megaport is a plus.
• Relevant Discover experience is advantageous but not required.
• Prior Capital One experience is not mandatory.
