Taxonomist

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A client with Kforce is seeking a Taxonomist to join their team in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities:
* Audit and tag help articles to ensure they surface accurately in search results and AI-driven support interfaces
* Maintain and expand the clients controlled vocabulary, ensuring synonyms and "consumer-speak" are mapped to technical tax terms
* Classify content to support Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), helping our AI provide more precise, context-aware answers to customer queries
* Work closely with the GEO/SEO team to align internal taxonomy with external search trends, ensuring a seamless journey from Google to the clients help
* Identify and resolve "dead ends" in the content journey caused by missing or incorrect metadata
* Document tagging standards and best practices to ensure consistency across the temporary project lifecycle

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), English, Technical Communication, Linguistics, or a related field; An MLIS is highly preferred
* 2+ years of experience in taxonomy, content strategy, or digital asset management
* Domain knowledge is a bonus; Previous experience with financial services, FinTech, or tax-related content is a significant plus but not required
* Strong understanding of controlled vocabularies, hierarchical structures, and metadata schemas
* Ability to digest complex tax topics and categorize them into simplified, logical buckets
* Familiarity with how metadata influences RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) and AI search results
* Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) and taxonomy management software (e.g., PoolParty, Synaptica, or proprietary tools) and Authoring/Publish tools like Wordpress Gutenburg
* High accuracy in data entry and classification; ability to spot inconsistencies in large datasets
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities during peak tax season

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
