Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced
Middleware Operations Engineer to support enterprise applications running on
Apache and Tomcat environments. This role is focused on
application and middleware troubleshooting, not operating-system administration or software development.
The ideal candidate is a
Linux-savvy middleware engineer who can quickly diagnose application issues, analyze logs, and collaborate across teams to resolve production incidents.
Key Responsibilities- Provide operational support for middleware platforms, primarily Apache and Tomcat
- Troubleshoot application and web server issues including:
- Application startup failures
- JVM memory and performance issues
- Thread hangs and connection pool problems
- Deployment and configuration errors
- HTTP/S errors (4xx, 5xx, latency, timeouts)
- Perform log analysis and root-cause investigations
- Navigate Linux systems to monitor processes, services, and middleware components
- Restart and manage middleware services as needed
- Support application deployments, upgrades, and environment changes
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and leadership teams during high-impact issues
- Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and operational processes
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Middleware Engineering, or Systems Operations
- Strong working knowledge of Linux (navigation, process monitoring, log review)
- Hands-on experience with Tomcat and web/application server environments
- Proven middleware troubleshooting skills (not OS-level administration)
- Experience supporting applications running on Apache and Tomcat
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Technical Skills- Linux (command-line navigation, process checking, log review)
- Apache and Tomcat administration
- Middleware troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Application log analysis
- JVM-based application support
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills- Monitoring and logging tools:
- Reporting or automation experience using:
- Exposure to additional middleware platforms (WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, etc.)
Soft Skills- Ability to communicate clearly during production incidents
- Comfortable working in high-pressure, incident-driven environments
- Strong collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Methodical, logical troubleshooting approach
