Senior Cognos Developer & Administrator (Strong SQL Expertise)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cognos Developer & Administrator with strong SQL expertise to join our team in Malvern, PA. This hybrid role requires a seasoned professional who can develop enterprise reporting solutions while administering and maintaining the Cognos platform. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Cognos Analytics 12+, Framework Manager, Cognos Administration, and advanced SQL in large-scale enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Cognos Development & Reporting

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise reporting solutions using IBM Cognos Analytics 12+.
• Build interactive dashboards, pixel-perfect reports, burst reports, and drill-through reports.
• Develop and maintain Framework Manager models, metadata layers, and reporting packages.
• Translate business requirements into scalable reporting solutions.
• Optimize Cognos reports and queries for performance and usability.
• Create reusable reporting components and best practices.

SQL & Data Management

• Develop complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures.
• Perform SQL query optimization, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning.
• Work with large enterprise data sets across multiple database platforms.
• Design efficient reporting data models and determine optimal placement of business logic.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across reporting solutions.

Cognos Administration

• Administer Cognos Development, QA, and Production environments.
• Configure and manage Cognos security, LDAP/Active Directory integration, roles, and permissions.
• Manage data source connections, content store, scheduling, and report distribution.
• Monitor platform health, performance, and system availability.
• Support Cognos deployments, migrations, upgrades, and environment maintenance.
• Troubleshoot application, platform, security, and reporting issues.

Collaboration

• Work closely with business users, data teams, and stakeholders to gather reporting requirements.
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Support production issues and ensure timely resolution of reporting incidents.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Cognos Development and Administration.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • IBM Cognos Analytics Version 12 or higher
  • Framework Manager
  • Cognos Report Studio / Reporting
  • Dashboard Development
  • Cognos Administration
• Advanced SQL expertise with one or more of the following:
  • Oracle
  • SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • Amazon Redshift
• Experience working in AWS environments.
• Strong knowledge of report optimization and SQL performance tuning.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale reporting platforms.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Financial Services or Asset Management industry experience.
• Experience with Cognos upgrades, migrations, and platform deployments.
• Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or Amazon QuickSight.
• ETL/Data Integration experience.
• Experience with Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or cloud-based analytics platforms.
