Location: York, PA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Duration: Contract (April 13, 2026 – August 2026, maternity leave coverage)

Overview
We are seeking an Associate Risk Manager to support a healthcare organization's Risk Management team during a maternity leave coverage period. This role will focus on medical professional liability claims oversight, risk evaluation, and coordination with legal counsel.
The position is hybrid (3 days onsite) and requires candidates to be local to the York, PA area.
This role will manage insurance claims, support legal counsel with case preparation, and help ensure that claims and risk-related matters are handled efficiently and in accordance with organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee medical professional liability insurance claims from intake through resolution.
- Coordinate with external defense counsel regarding litigation strategy, discovery, and case documentation.
- Review and analyze claims to assess risk exposure, complexity, and potential resolution strategies.
- Track, review, and analyze litigation trends and newly filed cases to help reduce overall litigation costs.
- Assist with the collection and preservation of documentation and evidence required for claims investigations and litigation support.
- Review and approve outside counsel invoices to ensure billing accuracy and appropriateness.
- Investigate allegations of inappropriate care or treatment that may result in patient injury.
- Participate in risk assessments and root cause analyses when requested.
- Review event reports and support investigations related to patient safety incidents.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop risk and litigation reporting metrics and communicate updates on key cases.
- Deliver educational sessions on risk management topics as needed across the organization.
- Assist with department reporting and provide updates to leadership on litigation and claims activity.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree with 5+ years of professional liability claims experience
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of professional liability claims experience
- Experience handling medical malpractice or healthcare professional liability claims
- Experience supporting litigation or claims investigations
- Strong understanding of claims management processes and insurance practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in insurance claims, healthcare risk management, or litigation support
- Experience working with medical professional liability matters, including:
- Physician professional liability
- Hospital professional liability
- Institutional professional liability
- Allied health professional liability
- Experience in claims management or paralegal roles
- Familiarity with commercial insurance environments
Additional Information
- Hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite each week
- Candidates must be local to the York, PA area
- Some regional travel may be required
