Jira Administrator
Baltimore, MD – mostly remote (onsite support as needed)

The Jira Administrator is responsible for the administration, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support of Atlassian Jira and related tools to enable effective project management, agile and hybrid development practices, and workflow automation. This role partners closely with development teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to ensure Jira and the Atlassian ecosystem are leveraged effectively for tracking, reporting, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Administration
• Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, screens, issue types, custom fields, permissions, and notifications.
• Administer users, groups, and roles to ensure appropriate access control.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and health; troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Assist with regular system upgrades, platform maintenance, and security patching in compliance with organizational standards.
• Support and participate in Jira Server/Data Center to Jira Cloud migration activities, as applicable.
Customization & Optimization
• Design and implement custom workflows, dashboards, reports, and automation rules to support business and technical teams.
• Administer and support third party addons/plugins (e.g., ScriptRunner, Automation tools, reporting extensions).
• Integrate Jira with other enterprise tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Confluence, Slack, CI/CD pipelines).
• Continuously evaluate and optimize Jira usage, performance, and configuration to meet evolving organizational needs.
Support & Training
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for Jira related incidents and service requests.
• Manage and resolve Incident and Request tickets in accordance with service standards.
• Develop and deliver training sessions, quick start guides, and documentation for end users and project teams.
• Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating requirements into effective Jira configurations.
Data Management & Reporting
• Ensure data integrity, system backups, and audit readiness.
• Generate and maintain reports and dashboards for project tracking, performance metrics, and executive visibility.
• Support data migration, cleanup, and validation activities as required.
Required Qualifications
• Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience:
• 3–5 years of hands on experience administering Jira Server or Jira Data Center in a midsized or large organization.
• Experience supporting Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and hybrid project management approaches.
• Demonstrated experience configuring Jira for both technical and business users.
Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of Jira administration and configuration.
• Experience with Confluence administration and collaboration spaces.
• Familiarity with Jira Query Language (JQL) and basic scripting or automation (e.g., Groovy, Python).
• Understanding of REST APIs and integrations.
• Linux administration skills.
• Understanding of project management methodologies and workflows.
• Experience administering or supporting third party Jira addons and plugins.
Soft Skills:
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Atlassian Jira Administrator
• Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP-100 (Jira Administrator)
• ACP-120 (Jira Cloud Administrator)
• ACP-500(Atlassian System Administrator)
• Experience with advanced automation tools (e.g., ScriptRunner), Jira Workflow Toolbox plugin.
• Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management.
• Experience migrating from Jira Server or Data Center to Jira Cloud.
• Experience supporting or administering Jira Cloud environments.
• Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management.
• Experience integrating Jira with enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow.
Nice to Have Qualifications:
• Hands on experience with third party plugins and reporting extensions.
• Familiarity with JWT, Oauth, and other authentication.
