Senior Power Engineer - Electrical Design

An electrical power and control systems engineering firm in Alpharetta, Georgia is hiring a Senior Power Engineer to grow its electrical power design practice. The role leads the development of electrical power construction packages, load studies, and specifications ready for Professional Engineer stamping and authority plan review. It also includes field walkdowns, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning. Travel is about 25%, including air travel.
Schedule
Full-time, based in Alpharetta, GA, with about 25% travel. Occasional after-hours support is required for client needs.
Compensation
$140,000 to $190,000 per year, plus a discretionary bonus for hours worked beyond 80 in a two-week pay period.
What You\'ll Do
You will lead the development of complete electrical power construction and specification packages ready for PE stamp and authority plan check. These include load studies, single line diagrams, plot plans and area and building detail drawings, lighting, grounding, conduit and cable schedules, equipment and installation details, and construction specifications. Depending on the project, you may also develop area classification drawings, motor and breaker schematics, wiring diagrams, and lightning protection designs.
You will build power system models, generate and implement protective relay settings, and prepare electrical bills of material, coordinating with vendors on equipment pricing. In the field, you will perform verification walkdowns and as-build existing electrical and E&I infrastructure. You will also lead factory acceptance testing and support start-up and commissioning, including troubleshooting.
You will work with Project Managers on quality, budget, and schedule, and keep them informed on technical progress, issues, and change orders. You will also support cost estimates and proposals for new projects by providing technical input on labor, expenses, and procurement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- 5+ years of experience developing electrical construction and specification packages for PE stamp and authority plan review
- Experience producing load studies, single line diagrams, grounding, lighting, conduit and cable schedules, and construction specifications
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the IEEE 3000 Standards Collection
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to travel about 25%, including by air
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical engineering
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower
- Protective relay settings experience with GE Multilin or SEL relays
- Knowledge of API RP 500 hazardous area classification
- Experience with area classification drawings, motor and breaker schematics, wiring diagrams, and lightning protection
- Factory acceptance testing and commissioning experience
