What We’re Looking For:
If you are experienced in cybersecurity, systems security, and infrastructure protection, and have over 10 years of experience, then you will be excited about the Principal Cybersecurity Specialist opening with Iridium on our Technology, Development, and Operations team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing multiple activities and projects, including those with cross-functional teams, to ensure the safety and security of Iridium’s government installations and technical infrastructure. In this role, you will focus primarily on monitoring, maintaining, and strengthening the security posture of critical systems and networks. You will thrive in this role if you have a deep understanding of federal cybersecurity standards, enjoy solving complex problems, and can independently drive initiatives to completion in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires an active/current Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
What You’ll Do:
- Interface with technical teams across a variety of topics and provide technical support to the team on behalf of the Satellite Operations & Development department, the datacenter/infrastructure group, and Gateway engineering
- Oversee the upgrade and maintenance of existing system security elements; implementation of security upgrades, patches, modifications
- Be responsible for responding to alerts and taking corrective action; providing root cause analysis and developing improvements
- Independently monitor systems for proper operation, error conditions, and unauthorized changes
- Oversee security scans and generate government specified reports to maintain a highly secure profile across all networking and computational systems; select and direct the replacement of information security tools and technologies as new systems become available
Play a key role in validating information assistance security compliance mandates in accordance with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA) benchmarks and/or industry standards (Center for Internet Security (CIS), SysAdmin, Audit, Network, and Security (SANS), etc.)
- Oversee and perform security hardening per Space Force and DISA IAVA standards
- Lead engineering support efforts related to design, build-out, update, operations, and maintenance of core system applications and components in the Iridium/government datacenters
- Support programs in other departments to ensure system and device security is properly implemented in new designs
- Coach and provide training or suggestions to team members and colleagues as required
- Evaluate, implement, and document security for all identified systems and components
- Document and apply necessary controls to identified Systems to achieve certification required to meet 800-171, 800-172, and 800-53 compliance
- Initiate automation, where possible, to effectively triage and address security alerts
- Engage with Admins and Engineers across various Iridium organizations to respond to and remediate events
- Respond to service requests and incident tickets within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Maintain existing IT security elements; implement upgrades, replacements and new equipment as directed
- Foster security awareness and security controls are operating effectively
- Maintain operational reports for Key Performance Indicators as well as weekly and monthly metrics
- Maintain proper Change Control and Configuration Management processes
- Maintain all monitoring systems and travel to remote sites to perform scans and gather data not accessible from the home site
