Summary

Job Description

Job Summary
The Manager, Electrical Engineering leads the electrical engineering function for the division's capital equipment portfolio. This leader builds and develops a strong team of engineers who deliver electrical design, verification, and compliance work for new product development and for sustaining products already in the field.

The role requires both technical depth and people leadership. The manager sets technical direction, makes sound design trade-offs, and partners across functions to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective products on schedule. The manager is also expected to raise the bar for electrical engineering practice across R&D.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership
  • Recruit, lead, and develop a team of electrical engineers. This includes hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Build a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear priorities and expectations, and keep the team aligned with divisional goals.

Technical Direction
  • Provide technical leadership and review of electrical architecture, circuit design, PCB assemblies, cabling, and power systems.
  • Guide design trade-offs that balance performance, safety, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for design, manufacturing, and field issues.
  • Address component obsolescence and supply continuity in partnership with sourcing and operations.

Compliance and Quality
  • Ensure products meet applicable medical device electrical safety and EMC standards, such as IEC 60601-1 and 60601-1-2.
  • Own electrical test strategy, including verification testing and third-party certification.
  • Ensure design documentation, risk management, and engineering changes meet design controls and quality system requirements.

Program Execution
  • Plan resources, schedules, and budgets across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Identify technical and schedule risks early, and communicate status and needs clearly to leadership.
  • Manage the technical side of relationships with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external design partners.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Work closely with systems, software, mechanical, quality, regulatory, clinical, and operations teams across the product lifecycle.
  • Build understanding of how the products are used in clinical practice so that the team designs for real user needs.

Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 5+ years.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience developing medical devices or other regulated electro-mechanical products.
  • Strong fundamentals in analog, digital, and power electronics design.
  • Working knowledge of IEC 60601, design controls (21 CFR 820 / ISO 13485), and risk management (ISO 14971).
  • Track record of taking products from concept through commercial launch and supporting them afterward.
  • Strong communication, project management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Preferred
  • Experience with capital equipment, energy-based devices, or imaging systems.
  • Experience with design for reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Experience working in matrixed or Agile environments.
