We are looking to hire a candidate with the mentioned skill sets and experience for one of our clients within the pharmaceutical Industry. This is a 6+ month contracting role, with potential for extension. This is an ONSITE role in Scottsdale, Arizona.

 

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Developer with deep, hands-on expertise across the AWS ecosystem.

This role is ideal for an engineer who is not only strong in Java and Spring Boot, but can also design, build, secure, deploy, operate, and troubleshoot large-scale applications across a broad range of AWS services.

The successful candidate will be expected to make architecture decisions, select the right AWS services for each use case, implement secure cloud-native solutions, automate infrastructure, optimize cost and performance, and support highly available financial applications in production.

Strong experience in the financial services industry and working with enterprise data engineering teams is highly preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build secure, resilient, and high-performance applications for financial services use cases.
  • Develop event-driven and asynchronous systems using AWS SNS, SQS, and EventBridge.
  • Deploy and operate containerized applications on Amazon EKS and Kubernetes.
  • Define and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS IAM policies.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Harness CD, Flux CD, and Flagger.
  • Implement progressive delivery strategies, including canary and automated deployments.
  • Configure and manage Kubernetes resources using Helm charts, Go templates, and helpers.tpl.
  • Work with service mesh technologies such as Istio, ztunnel, and Waypoint.
  • Develop and test containerized workloads locally using Minikube and Podman.
  • Implement distributed tracing, logging, metrics, and application monitoring using OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Integrate backend services with enterprise data platforms and distributed data stores.
  • Work with technologies such as Aerospike, Solr, HBase, Cloudera, StreamSets, loaders, and UC jobs.
  • Use Spring Expression Language where dynamic business rules and configuration-driven logic are required.
  • Collaborate closely with product, platform, DevOps, security, architecture, and data engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve system reliability and performance.
  • Ensure applications meet financial industry requirements for security, auditability, data protection, and operational resilience.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, technical planning, and engineering standards development.

 

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong professional experience in backend software development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, concurrency, and application performance.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including:
    • Amazon EKS
    • Amazon SNS
    • Amazon SQS
    • Amazon EventBridge
    • AWS IAM and IAM policies
    • Experience provisioning infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native application deployment.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in AWS networking and connectivity, including VPC design, subnetting, route tables, security groups, NACLs, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, VPC endpoints, Route 53, Direct Connect, VPN, and load balancing across secure multi-account and hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Helm charts using Go templates and reusable helper templates.
  • Experience with GitLab CI and continuous delivery tools such as Harness CD or Flux CD.
  • Familiarity with progressive delivery and deployment automation using Flagger.
  • Experience with Istio service mesh and related technologies such as ztunnel and Waypoint.
  • Hands-on experience with Podman, Minikube, or similar local containers and Kubernetes development tools.
  • Experience implementing observability using OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Experience working with one or more distributed data technologies such as Aerospike, Solr, or HBase.
  • Strong understanding of messaging, event-driven architecture, resiliency, fault tolerance, and idempotent processing.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in banking, payments, fintech, capital markets, insurance, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience collaborating with enterprise data engineering and analytics teams.
  • Familiarity with Cloudera, StreamSets, UC jobs, batch loaders, and large-scale data ingestion processes.
  • Experience building applications that process high-volume or low-latency financial transactions.
  • Knowledge of financial data governance, regulatory controls, audit requirements, and security standards.
  • Experience with zero-trust networking, service-to-service authentication, and Kubernetes network security.
  • Familiarity with GitOps operating models and declarative platform management.
  • Experience tuning Java applications, Kubernetes workloads, databases, search platforms, and messaging systems.
  • Understanding of production support, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
