Summary

Position Overview

The Server & Network Lead directs the design and operation of cloud-hosted compute and network infrastructure that supports mission-critical enterprise workloads. This role architects and manages environments on leading cloud platforms, implementing scalable virtual networks, compute resources, and security controls to meet performance and availability expectations. The Server & Network Lead also oversees automation of provisioning, configuration management, and deployment pipelines, ensuring infrastructure is consistently delivered through infrastructure-as-code in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure architectures, including virtual networks, subnets, routing, and security boundaries that support highly available enterprise applications.
  • Configure and manage compute, storage, and networking services on major cloud platforms, ensuring environments are secure, resilient, and aligned with architectural standards.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code templates and automation scripts to standardize provisioning, configuration, and deployments across environments.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud environments for cost, performance, and reliability, leading incident response and root-cause analysis for infrastructure and connectivity issues.
  • Collaborate with application, security, and operations teams to integrate network and server designs with application requirements, identity solutions, and security controls.
  • Define and maintain standards, runbooks, and documentation for cloud infrastructure, including configuration baselines, deployment patterns, and change-management processes.
  • Evaluate new cloud services, networking capabilities, and automation tools, providing recommendations and implementation plans that improve scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal leadership to engineers supporting cloud compute and network services, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems, network, or cloud engineering roles with significant hands-on work designing and operating environments in public cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or similar).
  • Strong expertise with cloud infrastructure components, including virtual networking, compute, storage, security groups, and load balancing in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools such as Terraform or equivalent and scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Proven ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and tune cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost optimization, including participation in on-call or incident response rotations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust investigation and U.S. citizenship as required for this remote federal IT position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional-level cloud certification such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or an equivalent vendor credential.
  • Experience designing or operating containerized workloads and orchestration platforms (for example, Docker or Kubernetes) in cloud environments.
  • Background supporting federal or other highly regulated clients, including familiarity with compliance, security baselines, and documentation expectations.
  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring for cloud, systems, or network engineering teams.
