Java Application Programmer

Role Summary

The Senior Java Application Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise and public-facing applications supporting healthcare eligibility, enrollment, and insurance marketplace systems. The role requires strong expertise in Java, REST APIs, databases, and modern web frameworks, with experience working in complex, high-availability environments.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise Java-based applications

• Build and support RESTful APIs and backend services

• Develop applications using Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA

• Participate in full SDLC: requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support

Frontend & Integration

• Collaborate with UI teams using Angular or similar modern JavaScript frameworks

• Integrate backend services with frontend applications

• Work with microservices and n-tier architectures

Database & Data Integration

• Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures

• Integrate applications with relational and NoSQL databases

• Ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability

Testing, Quality & Security

• Develop and execute unit and integration tests

• Support performance, system, and user acceptance testing

• Follow secure coding practices and remediate vulnerabilities identified by security scans

• Participate in peer reviews and technical design reviews

DevOps & Delivery

• Support build and deployment pipelines using tools such as Maven, Git, Jenkins

• Follow Agile development practices

• Adhere to PMO, security, and change management standards

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Java application development

• Strong experience with:

  • Java/J2EE, Spring (Boot preferred), Hibernate/JPA

  • RESTful API development

  • SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)

• Experience working with enterprise or public-facing applications

• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Angular or React

• Experience with microservices architecture

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines

• Experience in healthcare, insurance, government, or large public-sector systems

• Knowledge of ACA, Medicaid, or eligibility/enrollment systems

• Experience with EDI transactions (834, 820, etc.) is a plus

• Exposure to ESB or integration platforms (JBoss Fuse, MuleSoft, etc.)

• Experience with security scanning tools (Veracode, Fortify, AppScan)

Nice-to-Have / Plus Skills

• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure)

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases

• Knowledge of SOA and API security

• Experience supporting production systems
