Position Overview:
Client is seeking a Business Analyst to support Fire Portal, the department s internal system. This role will work closely with end-users, department leadership, and the IT development team to gather business requirements, respond to user requests for information, and develop custom dashboards and reports to enhance operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, is proficient in data visualization tools and SQL, and is experienced in business process improvement and user support. They will play a key role in ensuring that Fire Portal meets the evolving needs of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Fire Portal Support & User Requests
- Serve as the primary point of contact for user inquiries and support requests related to Fire Portal.
- Analyze user needs and business requirements to improve workflows and optimize system performance.
- Work with IT developers to enhance Fire Portal functionality based on feedback from firefighters, HR staff, and leadership.
- Assist users with reporting, data extraction, and system navigation to ensure they can efficiently retrieve the information they need.
Data Analysis & Dashboard Development
- Design and develop interactive dashboards to provide real-time insights into HR, payroll, training, and personnel management data.
- Generate ad hoc and scheduled reports for department leadership, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
- Utilize SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or other visualization tools to extract, transform, and display key metrics.
- Ensure data integrity and validation by cross-checking system outputs against external data sources.
Business Process Improvement
- Conduct workflow and process analysis to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with IT developers and stakeholders to streamline system functionality and automate manual tasks.
- Assist in user acceptance testing (UAT) for system enhancements, ensuring that Fire Portal improvements align with department needs.
- Document business rules, procedures, and technical requirements to ensure clarity and maintainability of Fire Portal configurations.
Collaboration & Training
- Work closely with HR, Payroll, and Fire Operations teams to understand and support their data needs.
- Provide training and guidance to Fire Portal users on dashboards, reporting tools, and best practices.
- Facilitate meetings and workshops to gather input from users and communicate system updates effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience in business analysis, data reporting, or systems support.
- Proficiency in SQL for querying databases and extracting data.
- Hands-on experience with business intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of Excel, pivot tables, and data visualization techniques.
- Familiarity with workforce analytics, or payroll data analysis is a plus.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications for developers.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in public sector IT environments or fire/emergency service operations.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow or other IT service management tools for tracking requests.
- Understanding of data governance, compliance, and security best practices.
