The Role

As an Associate Test Engineer, you'll join a team of engineers and technicians in a research and development laboratory setting, gaining hands-on exposure to PMS air and liquid particle counting systems and related optical, electrical, and mechanical technologies. This is an entry-level position designed for entry level, degreed engineers to build tangible engineering experience by executing test plans, operating laboratory equipment, and troubleshooting products under the guidance of senior engineers. This position reports to the Engineering Laboratory Manager.

Job Responsibilities
  • Execute test plans and procedures for new product development and sustaining engineering projects under senior engineer guidance
  • Perform functional, environmental, calibration, and reliability testing on prototype and production units
  • Operate laboratory and electro-optical equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, laser power meters, beam profilers, spectrophotometers, flow and pressure sensors) to collect and record test data
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and optical/laser subsystems under moderate supervision
  • Document test results, deviations, and data analysis in clear technical reports
  • Support root-cause investigations of test failures and assist in defining corrective actions
  • Maintain test equipment, fixtures, and calibration records
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams on R&D projects and product changes
  • Rotate across product lines and project teams to build broad exposure to PMS engineering
  • Follow safety policies and procedures, including laser safety practices, to maintain a safe work environment
  • Continuously evaluate processes for improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 0-2 years of experience or recent graduate
  • Basic understanding of optics, electro-optics, or laser systems preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory test and measurement equipment
  • Excellent technical problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a cross-functional team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on lab, coursework, or internship experience with test and measurement equipment
  • Solid Modeling (CAD) experience, SolidWorks preferred
  • Exposure to gas and/or liquid handling systems
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of laser systems
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • This is an in-office position 100% of the time. The location of this position is in Niwot, CO. Relocation not offered for this role.
  • This role primarily operates in an office/lab/manufacturing environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. may be required

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary range: $75,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
    • Our compensation philosophy: we offer competitive pay based on market data, including local, national, and industry benchmarks. For new hires, offers are generally within the established min- to mid-point of the range for the role, with flexibility to recognize experience, skills, and education. Our approach ensures fair pay internally while remaining competitive externally and allows room for growth.
