Job overview and responsibilities
Provide engineering support for a wide range of aircraft systems software and maintenance programs, as well as operational engineering functions. Must be able to understand, analyze and seek solutions to the design, operation, maintenance, performance or repair of aircraft and their components. Should be able to logically approach problem-solving, define an aircraft maintenance program or configurations and ensure a safe and legal operation. As a United Engineer, you will also evaluate the benefits of the cost impact of a fleet decision to ensure a balance of cost, assets utilization. You will be responsible for working with both internal and external customers on technical issues, work scope recommendations and failure investigations. You could work in a variety of engineering departments based on current needs.
This specific role is for the Loadable Software Group (LSG), which is part of the Avionics Engineering department.
Acquire, duplicate, distribute, recall, and purge aircraft software
Acquire and distribute various operational databases such as Navigation Databases, Terrain Databases, Moving Maps, etc. to Maintenance, and Simulators
Manage software distribution and installation paths
Manage software configuration database
Support new aircraft delivery through distribution and importing of software and software configuration
Manage and Administer Software libraries and Ground Based Software Tools
Develop and manage Airline Modifiable Information/User Modifiable Software
Author engineering authorization documents and log pages for software installation
Organize and manage the priorities for assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work process to meet all deliverables for projects accomplished on both line and base aircraft, as well as maintenance program changes and technical specification revisions
Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency
Provide necessary support for certain aircraft software loading tools, such as Portable Data Loaders
Comply with all regulatory and United cybersecurity requirements to ensure software is maintained and distributed safely
Development and documentation of departmental procedures on Loadable Software Group processe
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
B.S Degree in Engineering, related technical field or equivalent experience
Entry level to 5 years of engineering experience
Engineering skill sets which can be applied to a range of aircraft avionics systems
Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop solutions, detailed level of project management for complex projects
Excellent verbal and technical writing skills needed
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Travel up to 20% may be required, including international travel
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
Prior work experience with Aircraft Software and Distribution
Knowledge of FARS (especially 145, 25, and 121)
Ability to specify, install, and sustain specific avionics equipage for functionality, reliability, and life cycle management.
Strong skills in MS office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Familiarity with Aircraft Network Security Programs (ANSP) or Aircraft Information Security Program (AISP)
Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-355, ARINC 645, ARINC 827, ARINC 835
Familiarity with special aircraft tooling such as Portable Data Loaders (PDL)
